There are 11 hectares of land cultivated organically, respecting the
environment and its precious resources. Most of the cultivation is
dedicated to vineyards for the production of local wines such as Chianti
and Vernaccia.

Other parts of land are dedicated to the cultivation of Olives, Ancient
Fruits, Saffron and Legumes. The tradition of hospitality at the PODERE
PRETOIA dates back to ancient times, with documentation showing the
oldest track of the Via Francigena, on the left of the Elsa river.

The name Pretorio comes from Praetorium and was used to indicate the
places where travellers, using the public roads (curcus publicus)
sheltered for refreshment and hospitality. The name PRETOIA probably
evolved from Pretorio. The track from Ulignano passed by S.Maria and
S.Lucia (now S.Benedetto) and down towards the Elsa valley finally
reaching Badia a Elmi, a monastery founded in 1034. Nowadays only the
church survives intact.

First of all, the owners are very, very welcoming and helpful. They gave us fresh fruit and vegetables from their garden and also pizzas, cake, wine, olive oil and eggs. The flat was very clean and the kitchen fully equipped. This was our first time in Tuscany and we expected more greenery around the house together with the lawns, however in August everything was dry and dusty. There is nothing to do in the house sourroundings and we found the farmyard not very safe for young children. But anyway - the flat itself is very nice and the hosts are wonderful people. We strongly recommend visiting San Gimignano which is really nearby.

This place was wonderful. A haven away from the craziness we met each day during our travels and adventures. Such a beautiful area and the view from our bedrooms - Beautiful. Just like you see in the movies. It was very late the night we arrived as we had gotten lost trying to find the place. Our host actually drove out to meet us when we called her so we could follow her back to the farmhouse. When we arrived, there was a bottle of wine waiting for us in the apt. as well as a basket of fresh grapes which we very much appreciated. We had not eaten all day and when Chiara (sp)our host asked if she could get us anything, we told her a bit of bread would be nice. 10 minutes later when we had not heard back from her we knocked on her door only to find her in the process of making us fresh bread where We graciously informed her that was not necessary. On our 3rd day there we asked for directions a "laundromat". Grandma came over and showed us how to use their washing machine and even helped us do our laundry. Everyone was great. Only reason I could not totally rate with 10s was it was a bit difficult to find. But A wonderful, wonderful place. Best place we stayed during our two week trip. Would definitely revisit and have already recommended to several others who are looking to visit Italy in the next year.

Fantastico! Mauro and his family welcomed my husband and I with warmth and hospitality. They brought us their own fresh tomatoes, figs, oil and wine. The apartment is spacious and the view amazing. The countryside location is a short drive to the city of San Gimignano, a selection of outstanding restaurants, and is centrally located for exploring beautiful Tuscany. We would definitely come back.

This lodging at Podere Pretoia was definitely the best we had in Italy! Both my daughter and I enjoyed the homeiness and spaciousness of the apartment. I LOVED opening up the shutters to to fantastic view of San Gimignano and surrounding countryside! I also appreciated the artistic decor and personal touches. My daughter was thrilled that Mauro's son was able to hook her up to the internet(!). I enjoyed the wonderful wine and olive oil, as well as fresh farm eggs. Just a few suggestions: a drying line for hand washed clothes would be nice. Also, the refrigerator was not really working- had to throw food away. There was a small table and chair set up outside but I didn't know if it was for us or not... The owners spoke barely any English and tended to keep to themselves.

Everything was excellent: beautiful views, the apartaments, home food (vine, eggs, bread, the pizza and etc.) It was a little problem with the location but it doesn't matter. We really enjoyed our first trip to Italy and it was a pleasure to stay here!

The view from the appartment was great, sitting at the table outside and dining , we enjoyed the surroundings. The family was very welcoming and the wine, fresh fruit, eggs and warm bread were delicious. The only thing we didn't like were the mosquitos in the evening. Especially we liked our visit to Volterra and Siena.

This was our second week here and was just as good as the first. A wonderful place to stay in Toscana and with a lovely family who provided us with home made bread, olive oil, wine and eggs etc.

A wonderful farm stay where we were provided with home made bread; their own wine; eggs and olive oil as well as vegies. Had a great stay with a lovely family and at a very good price. A beautiful place in Toscana. Difficult to find using our sat nav. Got directions over phone from owner and then found the farm.

I Cannot recommend this place enough. A gorgeous characterful place in tuscany but near enough ( 10 mins) to the main traffic routes that getting around is easy. Sandra and Mauro were the perfect hosts and their welcome gifts and continuing hospitality were much appreciated after a long day travelling.

Podere Pretoia is a beautiful place. It is located in the centre of Tuscany, within easy sriving distance of pretty much everything in the region. Obviously, you need a car to get there and travel around. The appartment (there is only one) is excellent, spotlessly clean and very well appointed with bedding, kitchen utensils, etc. We even found a couple of bottles of wine (from the farm's own production), olive oil, spices, biscuits, fruits, etc. - everything as a welcome gift. The owners/operators are very nice people. We would wholeheartedly recommend this place and would go there for another vacation any day...
