Inn Casa Migliaca - Pettineo
Contrada Migliaca - Sp 176 Km 7 - Pettineo
877-662-6988The house stays on a hill overlooking the sea on the East side of river Tusa’s valley. Landscape spreads over the Tyrrhenian sea and the Nebrodi woods. The building has been constructed in the XVII century. Originally it was an oil mill, then in the early nineties has been adapted with accommodation facilities and today offers a is simple but convivial ospitality. At Casa Migliaca, lifestyle is informal, dinner is taken all together around the huge round table, once the base of the mill used to squeeze olives; the morning breakfast is free from time restrictions and each one serves himself in the ancient kitchen on the first floor. Eight rooms are available; those on the first floor of the house have ancient furnitures;.those on the ground level maintain the original traits of the oil mill service rooms. The silted jar, the small palmento and the chestnut mezzanine are witness of the old functions. All the rooms are large and, respectful of the original architecture and volumes, bathrooms are essential, small but functional. The main building is surrounded by a 12 hectares active farm producing olive-oil and citrus fruits.

Eight rooms are available for the guests, three on the first floor and five on the ground floor. Those on the ground floor were originally all service rooms to the oil mill or deposits for tools and products of the farm. Still today, they maintain the rustic nature of their own original functions. On the first floor there was the residence of the Allegra family; they used to come during autumn and winter to direct all the different working phases of the olive harvest and the following squeezing. On this floor there were two bedrooms, a dining room and the living as is today. The restoring – very little as needed by a house never abandoned- has been done leaded by the spirit of preserving as much as possible the original atmosphere. Electrical and water plants beside seismic structures have been carefully adapted. Vaults, plasters, doors, locks, pavements, volumes, furnishing and objects are almost all the originals. They have required a great commitment and still require it to be maintained as they are. The only “architectural revolution” has been done by adding the bathrooms; the aim of not modifying the original layout of any single room required great attention and the need to sacrifice bathroom volumes to what is essential and functional. There is one in each room with one exception: the Green room has still a private one but external. This choice has been done in order to limit the “architectural sacrilege” for the room that according to many is the most beautiful.

Between these two exit at km 160.700 there is a junction to Pettineo - Castel di Lucio. There are also interesting roads that cross the mountains southward / northward to/from the center of Sicily, an interesting ride by itself. However, please consult carefully a good map before attempting to take it.
Along the route SS113 Messina/Palermo between S. Stefano di Camastra and Cefalù, at km 160.700 there is a southward junction to Pettineo-Castel di Lucio going upstream of the Tusa river. At km 6.5 on the left you will find the Pettineo village. Straight-on to Castel di Lucio, after two hundred meters there is a gas station on the left, straight on at 300 m there is the "Migliaca" gate on the right. Entering the gate, there is the private-rather steep-road going down. After two bends there is Casa Migliaca. Please drive slowly.
