About Fattoria di Montelucci

exterior The Fattoria Montelucci has a long and fascinating history. The literal meaning of Montelucci derives from latin Mons Lucii or Monte Luci: is the Mountain of Light.

In the VI century, Montelucci was a castle situated in a strategic position at 500 m above sea level, on a hill at the centre of the triangle formed by the town of Arezzo, Siena and Florence.

Although it was destroyed in the XIII century, during the war between Florence and Arezzo, some ruins of the castle are still visible: it’s possible to visit the Chapel of San Tommaso, a little late-medieval church with the attached XVIII century presbytery, as the ruins of the walls and houses of the ancient village.

In the centuries Montelucci was enlarged and were built homes also outside the walls, where now there are the Main Villa and the rural homes. In the 1700, with the italian economy development agriculture flourish in Tuscany and the village of Montelucci grew coming to be the farm Montelucci as it is today.

The Farm Montelucci consists of four businesses: Faunistic-Hunting company, breeding of Chianina cows and Cinta Senese pigs, Agriturismo and Restaurant.

The property extends on an area of 550ha, of which 450ha used by the Faunistic-Hunting company with an extension forest in 300ha. Inside there is also a splendid Lake and it’s possible to have excursions on foot or in mountain bike between numerous paths .

Farm boasts well 4000 plants of olive groves which yields excellent Extra Virgin Olive Oil and 7ha of wineyards that producing Chianti Classico DOCG.

Today the impact of the natural environment in which it is immersed the Farm has something magic. The green fields and trees, and the valleys dotted with ancient medieval towns, the sky dyed of a clear blue and sunsets that leave the soul astonished help to ensure that quiet here in Montelucci is the real relief for body and spirit.

Superior rooms: double bedrooms with private services, with TV and telephone. In Casali di Sopra and Casali diSotto they make up a sort of independent little apartment without kitchen because there are two double bedrooms with private services which share the same living room. Superior rooms are also in the Villa Centrale, the manor house of XVI century which dominates the estate of Montelucci.

Suites: double bedrooms which have the same facilities as the Superior but an extra private living room more.

How to reach Fattoria di Montelucci

By car

HOW TO REACH MONTELUCCI COMING FROM THE A1 HIGHWAY FROM NORD

Leave the A1 (Firenze-Roma) at the Valdarno exit.
After the toll, turn right at the roundabout, following signs to Montevarchi.
As the road bears right, continue straight on towards Montevarchi (SR69).
A few metres later there is a yellow ‘Api’ garage on the left, take the immediate left fork here towards Levane (SP11). Then take the right at the end.
Follow this road (SP11), alongside and under the A1, until it brings you to the village of Levane.
Take a left at the traffic lights towards Arezzo (SR69).
After approx. 8-10 km you will enter the small village of Poggio Bagnoli, where you take a right towards Pergine Valdarno
From Pergine Valdarno simply follow the yellow signs to Fattoria Montelucci. The last 3 km to the Fattoria are along a winding dirt track.
The exit from the A1 Highway coming from south (Rome) is Arezzo. At the roundabout right out of the highway, take right following the direction towards Civitella in Valdichiana.Drive through the little village of Viciomaggio and its industrial area and follow the main road, always following the indications towards Civitella in val di Chiana. Once you’ll reach the industrial area of Badia al Pino, you’ll reach almost imediately another roundabout, where you have to take your right, still following the indications for Civitella in val di Chiana.Follow the road for about 6 km climbing up the hill. Almost at the top, you’ll find a gas station on your right, and, once you get to the hilltop, you’ll find an intersection. Take your right towards the clearly indicated direction “Fattoria Montelucci”.Follow the yellow indications “Fattoria Montelucci” or the white ones with the indication , Via Montelucci. The road, after a while, become a white one and the distance to cover is about 7 km.
