Hotel Reviews San Gallo

USA, Aug 2009
This was a wonderful place to stay. The people were warm, welcoming and helpful. The accomodations lovely, and the view magnificent. One tip--don't try to find it on your own. We got really lost on the way. It's tucked away behind a church and down a long, narrow, twisty road.

This review is a year overdue but I just had to write it, late or not. My husband and I stayed at the Farm House San Gallo from June 8 to 13, 2008 and it was the best experience during our 3 weeks in Italy. This centuries old property has been lovingly and carefully restored by the Gallo family and they have not overlooked a single detail. We were greeted by Olimpia Gallo's parents who welcomed us with such warmth and hospitality, we felt like part of the family. They presented us with a bottle of wine from their own vineyard down the road. They sat us down, provided maps, books and information on the area and told us some of their favourite eating places etc. When they showed us our accommodation, we were in awe. We were given the apartment on the second floor with a porch facing the medieval hillside town of Montepulciano. What a site! We could barely leave that view behind every day to start out on our travels. The apartment was exquisite in every detail, espcially the 4 poster bed and the modern bathroom with its floor to ceiling Italian marble walls and floors, and a large skylight. We had a small kitchen area with table and chairs and a lounge area with a wood burning fireplace. A basket of breakfast foods was provided with lots of coffee, toasts and biscuits for the next morning as well as milk and butter in the fridge. Val d'Orcia is a beautiful region, home of Vino Nobile wines and famous for Pecorino cheese. It is only minutes away from several other medieval hilltop towns such as Pienza, Montalcino and San Quirico which we loved. We also took a day trip to San Gimignano and Siena. We had 5 glorious days touring around, sometimes stopping near a field or on a bench with fresh crusty bread, hunks of local cheeses and some wine we picked up in the nearest town. We loved it and would go back in a minute.

We loved everything. The apartment was perfect. It had A/C and all the extra's we needed in the kitchen, etc. The pool was great (and clean) since it was 100* days while we were there. The owners were awesome. If there was a minor negative, it was the mattress wasn't comfortable for us... but that is up to each individuals taste. I can't recommend San Gallo enough! Thank You!!

We really enjoyed our stay at San Gallo. The whole experience was extremelely relaxing. The location is beautiful and the accommodation was to a high standard. We were met by the owners on the first day, who very kindly drove to Montepulciano to meet us as we had difficulty finding our way to the hotel. The owners provide a small breakfast basket, the most important ingredient being some good quality coffee, and buiscuits. We cooked a lunchtime meal one day using the kitchenette. The swimming pool is in a secluded location. And although there were other people staying at the property, we always had the pool to ourselves. Montepulciano is a beautiful hill top town, and a lovely place to visit, especially if you appreciate the history of the place and the fantastic Vina Nobile wine. It is also a great place to use as a base to visit the local towns. we drove to Assisi one day, and also took a daytrip on the train to Florence from from a nearby town. Pienza was our favourite place to visit - and very easy to get to. If you are trying to escape the rat race...this is the perfect destination to unwind and explore!

We had a fantastic stay at San Gallo! We chose to stay here after reading the glowing reviews on venere.com and everything met, if not surpassed, our expectations. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and we would have gladly stayed longer if that had been possible. The close proximity to Montepulciano was ideal, and we found this town to be one of the gems of Tuscany. We were also within driving distance of many other lovely Tuscan towns which we really enjoyed exploring, and we hope to return again in the near future.

Suggest photos of inside rooms & pool be added to website; continental breakfast could be more substantial. Rooms were spacious with lovely views. Hosts were superb. Gorgeous gardens. Views of vineyards. Pool brilliant, water quality superb. Bird life & calls super. Peaceful.

The perfect Tuscan Farmhouse with quality furnishings and finish. Great views of Montepulciano and countryside around. The owner told us that their guests always return. I can believe it. A little piece of heaven.

We had the most amazing time at Farm Home San Gallo. The moment we arrived, Olimpia and her father greeted us warmly and showed us to our very spacious accommodations. Their property is stunning. It sits on a hill slope below the town of Montepulciano. Above you is the town and below is wine grapes and the beautiful Tuscan landscape. We were able to stay for four days. We toured local towns Pienza, Montalcino and Cortona (and of course Montepulciano). We also did a day trip to Florence to see the museums and sights there. It was the most relaxing vacation I have had in years and we absolutely want to return. The room was very spacious - we were traveling with our 20 year old daughter. We had a kitchen and fixed ourselves breakfast each morning. In the afternoons and evenings we explored nearby towns or just relaxed at San Gallo. We enjoyed the local wines and found several restaurants that served great food. San Gallo is in a great location. Pienza is 15 minutes away, Montalcino 30 minutes, Cortona about 30 minutes and even Florence is only a one hour drive. Montepulciano is within 5 minutes and has great restaurants, good shopping and a full grocery store. I would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants to truly experience Tuscany.

It was a little difficult to find San Gallo, as there was a hotel named San gallo near by. Owner family were very friendly and helpful. Farm Home was traditional though all the facilities were very modern and comfortable. Garden area and home are very spacious, and beautiful. We could enjoy the stay very much. I'd like to introduce the home to our friends.

San Gallo is a fabulous place. Gorgeous rooms, lovely pool area and very welcoming people. They couldn't do enough for us for our entire stay. Beautiful views from the property, towels for the pool area and spotless accomodation. Everything you need for a perfect tuscan stay.

In our 16 day trip, the four nights we spent at San Gallo were certainly our best accommodations! The building is 13th or 14th century, but renovated with modern conveniences. The place is immaculate and the pictures do not do it justice. The scenery in the area is unbelievable and being set among olive orchards and vinyards is very peaceful. It is set in the country which is what we loved about it after a few days in Rome. Montepulciano is probably the Tuscan town we liked best. We have both recommended it to others already and would love to return to visit again. Olympia and her family were wonderful hosts, ready to answer any of our questions, give us directions, etc. The basic room does include a kitchenette which was sufficient for basic meals and there is also a grill available for the guests to use. The rooms were much larger than anywhere else we stayed in Europe. If you are reading this review considering different places to stay in Tuscany, just stop reading and book San Gallo!

We loved our stay at San Gallo. Olympia and her father could not have been nicer or more accommodating. The setting that San Gallo is in, is truly majestic. We loved the pool and the grounds, totally at our disposal. There is even a small well stocked pond for fishing!Montepulciano, for us, was a wonderful base to explore Tuscany from...... not as crowded as other towns we visited, or as "touristy". We found wonderful wineries to explore, restaurants to eat in, and places to shop and explore all within an easy ride. Montepulciano is an easy ride from the autostrada. We will return to Montepulciano and San Gallo!

It just a little difficult to find so make sure to have a good map or stop at the Tourist Info office in Montepulciano. Olimpie and her family are warm and informative. The wines are wonderful. We will return as soon as we can.

San Gallo is the essence of Italy. Forget about the crowds in Venice, Florence and Rome and come to relax, enjoy yourself, the wine, food and scenery. San Gallo was restored with great attention to tuscan architecture. The masonry and iron work are very nice touches to the grounds. Not to mention the hammocks, pool area, vast vineyards and fantastic views of the town of Montepulciano. The room my wife and I shared was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Most beds in Italy are tough to sleep in...this one was very comfortable. The Roberti family were so nice. We felt very welcome and at home during our stay. We will be back some day. I have and would recommend San Gallo to anyone visiting Tuscany.

The Roberti Family are wonderful, intelligent, ambitious and welcoming. Olympia is a young lawyer from Rome turned winemaker and vinyard owner who is soon to open a shop for her wine on top of running San Gallo with the help of her parents. She is facing an unfair threatened law suit by Gallo Wine to change the name of their lable. This is so unfair as they only produce 20,000 bottles a year of excellent wine, which they invite you to taste. We were completely spoiled by the wonderful time we spent there. The views were wonderful. It was quiet, peacefull and a great location from which to explore Tuscany. We would go back in a heartbeat.

We have toured Italy for 8 times in 20 years and this is one of the best places we stayed at in all those trips. The Roberti family Olimpia, Allegra. Mum, Dad and Oliver are great Everything works the AC, the screens, the shower and you can sit on the terrace watching the lights come on in Montepuliciano. This is a great location and we had a great 6 days as it is central to both Umbria and Val di Chiana and val D'Orcia.

We really enjoyed our time at San Gallo. It was a stunning location and very close to Montepulciano. Everything is very new. Coming back after a day of exploring to the swimming pool and the view was truly wonderful.

Our hosts were gracious, warm and more than helpful, recommending sites to visit, restaurants, services nearby. The home is an elegantly restored treasure, the surroundings are everything you have ever dreamed that Tuscany would be. Be aware that towels and bedding is changed weekly and take care of the room yourself. This is a slice of heaven.

The property was recently renovated and updated and is absolutely beautiful. We stayed in an apartment which was perfect, especially the bedroom and the bathroom. We were greeted with a smile and some of wine made from the vineyard. The staff was very helpful, especially Olimpia, and suggested some outstanding restaurants. The views of Montepluciano from the property are magnificient.

Azienda Agrituristica Sangallo was one of the highlights of our holiday in Italy. The accommodation was everything and more than we had expected, the surroundings were magnificent and the managers helpful and available but did not intrude on our break. I would highly recommend the accommodation to anyone visiting Tuscany/Umbria and can't wait to visit again.
