My husband and I had a wonderful, although short, stay at Castello di Petroia. We had only wished that we had known about this lovely place so we could have re-arranged our travels. The staff was friendly and helpful. The owner, Carlo, was a pure gentleman and host. We can't wait till our next visit to Italy so that we may stay here again.

Situated in a place of harmony coupled with splendid views. Well placed for local points of interest for example Gubbio, Assisi, Lake Trasimeno, car needed. Dining here was quite unusual, we were joined by the owner for the different set dinner each night with complementary wine and after dinner liquer. The meal each night is as I imagine what an Italian family might enjoy, several small courses including a meat dish, the beef was particularly enjoyable. All in all an interesting and enjoyable stay.

Excellent location, particularly enjoyed the dinner with our host Carlo, Room was very big with a nice seating area, plenty of character. The only issues were the quality of the bed which was on a sprung base with an unsufficient matress, it was a bit uncomfortable and the shower was ready for a refurbishment. apart from that the place was really nice and the staff were really good.

We loved this castle, as well as the keeper of the castle! It was just as we imagined a real castle and with caring owner and staff. Beautiful grounds and vistas, atmosphere, hospitality, food - magnificent!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay. I would recommend this to anyone, except that if I did, I might find it booked out when I want to come back again!

Our stay at Castello di Petroia was as wonderful as we had hoped it would be. Carlo the delightful owner picked us up at the train station as we had not been able to get a hire car and only charged us $10 Euro each way for the 45min drive. The Castle is the most charming old building with magnificent views of the surrounding hills, it's a photographers paradise. Our room was huge with a separate room for the children. The highlight of the stay was glorious evening meal that the guests have the opportunity to share with Carlo. The atmoshpere was wonderful the food divine and the host ever so gracious. It was great to sit around and talk with the other guests and enjoy Carlo's hospitality. Our children were also made very welcome at the dinner and enjoyed a much later night than they had been used to. We would have loved to stay longer and would definetly come back to Hotel Castello di Petroia.

The location was stunning, the hotel and grounds wonderful and atmospheric. The owner, Carlo, was a true gent and host, and accompanied us at dinner, and what a fantastic dinner! After such a great dinner, the only slight disappointment was an average breakfast. But we would definitely return!

It was a pleasure staying at Carlos castle and we can really recommend it to everyone. The owner is a very nice person. The dinner that we were offered was really nice and the price was surpising low for a good typicall umbrian meal wine, water, coffee, etc. included! The area is beautiful, even a nice pool gave as relaxing after a busy day of sightseeing. Just the road to the castle could be a bit better.. but all in one it was a great stay!

This was not the first time I enjoyed Carlo's gracious hospitality. As a matter of fact this time I took my Mother and sister, who also considered it the highlight of the vacation.

The Castello di Petroia gives as its address "Gubbio",which turns out to be a gross deception.Actually it is situated 15 km (!) away from Gubbio, reachable by car only via a hilly, winding street, the last km being a bumpy dirt road.I wonder what people do who have booked via internet and arrive by train.

A very interesting place to stay - a true castle on a hilltop but still small enough to sit at the dinner table with the owner Carlo and his wife! The rooms are enormous and interesting, the location is beautiful, and the meal was excellent. The only drawbacks were the need to drive a dirt road a short way off the main highway, and the somewhat odd butler who insisted on sharing his problems with you as you had your breakfast.

We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay. It was a little hard to find. We began by asking directions in Gubbio, but several people we approached had never even heard of Petroia. Once at the castle, we were captivated by its charm. Our bedroom was very spacious, but the bathroom was very small and limiting. This did not bother us, since we were prepared to accept a few minor inconveniences in a converted castle. The views over the countryside are beautiful. Walking around the gounds, one feels placed back in medieval times. Anna, the property manager, greeted us upon arrival at the castle gate. She was very efficient and took care of all of our needs. We elected to have dinner at the castle, and the proprietor, Dr. Sagrino, was our gracious host. The dinner was outstanding and reasonably priced. We enjoyed the evening with Dr. Sagrino, his friends and the other guests. There was a beautiful pool and other amenities at the castle that we did not have time to take advantage of. We would definitely come back to this place on a future visit to Umbria.

What a find - Staying here will make your trip to Italy even better. The gracious welcome provided by Carlo and his family is heartwarming, the accomodations and the surrounding lands are spectacular. Dinner with the family is not to be missed, and the location is perfect for day trips to Gubbio, Assisi, and Perugia. Carlo also recomended a trip to the Caves at Frassasi - if you have the time take it, they are incredible. I look forward to returning!
