We arrived at the Fairmont Nile City just before the recent demonstrations exploded in Egypt. The hotel is well located along the Corniche El Nil and clearly visible from the distance. Our welcome was warm and efficient. The room was very clean and furnished to a high standard with plenty of room. The staff were very helpful. On the Friday of our stay, demonstrators pelted the hotel with stones (breaking much of the glass frontage), looted the nearby shopping centre and set it on fire, and attempted to enter the hotel. We were ushered to our rooms for safety. The restaurants were closed and food was provided in the ballroom .The hotel staff protected the hotel and guests by standing outside brandishing poles, sticks and swords.The fear on their faces said everything. They were able to find a taxi for us to take us on the terrifying journey to the airport. We would like to thank them all for the fantastic job they did in such difficult circumstances and hope that they all remain safe. On an ordinary stay, I would say the food and drinks available at the hotel were overpriced and rather average.
