Location of Hotel Toscana, Lucca
-
City Area:Around Lucca
Italy
Lucca originated along the Auser River (later renamed Serchio) at an unknown date, in an area bordered by Ligurian and Etruscan territory. Known as the city of 100 churches, Lucca does in fact boast a large number of churches both within and outside its city walls, including several unconsecrated churches.
Enclosed by imposing, fully-intact Renaissance walls, the city boasts a very well preserved historic centre where medieval buildings and elegant boutiques line the major streets. The city's ancient charm will have visitors feeling as though they have been catapulted back in time. Lucca is also an ideal base for archaeological visits to Garfagnana, the plain of Lucca, Versilia, the city of Carrara (renowned for its marble) and the Apuane Alps.

It's easy to see the hotel. It's not easy to get there, but when the code is broken, it's a no problems any more. It’s a nice walk to the old town if you don't use the highway but the parallel road.

This is a business oriented hotel. We stayed on a weekend and had a very very good rate. The only (small) complaint was an inexperienced waiter in the dining room. But the dinner was excellant, as was breakfast! Not typical hotel food.

A short walk from the wonderful town of Lucca and an ideal place to spend a couple of nights without breaking the bank. The hotel is more of a high end Motel and its position close to the highway might put some off but did not spoil our enjoyment or sleep.

Overall better than I expected on the basis of the prices of other hotels in the area. The location is excellent for access to the motorway but less convenient for Lucca town (beautiful, by the way). The restaurant provided a very good evening meal at a reasonable price. Buffet breakfast was good/satisfactory (the cooked items weren't very appealing). Despite the heating being turned off in the bedrooms, they were still a bit too warm (beginning of April, chilly outside).

We stayed 2nights. The room was exactly like the photo and we were offered a 3-bed room when the girl saw our son. The nyon light on top of the hotel was not very obvious and the hotel is at the cross road coming out of the high way. Need to pay attention to find it. Breakfast was good besides the coffee machine was really making disgusting coffee. Better as the service staff your coffee.

We spent one night in a double room and arrived by car. The directions for getting from the highway exit to the hotel should be clarified. Due to one-way streets, we had to go around several blocks in order to get to the front entrance of the hotel. There was a fair amount of noise from other rooms at certain times. In general, hwr, the hotel was truly an excellent value for the money.

We stayed there for 2 nights in august 2008 with the goal to visit Lucca and surroundings. Great price-quality this hotel was (we paid 70 euro per night and the price in the room indicated 250 euro which indeed didn't surprise me that much). The only slightly negative point was that for one night we had noisy neighbours but that's hardly the fault of the hotel. In our room (nr 109) there was no noise from the street. Also the airconditioning was very quiet and could be operated as you like. The hotel parking was for free and we rented bikes (10€/day) cheaper than we could in the city. Lucca is only a 15 minutes' walk away. I would strongly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is perfect as a stopover or business hotel. Staff were very helpful at all times. Rooms were not the biggest i've stayed in and anymore than 2 nights would have got claustraphobic but very good location for seeing Lucca. Hotel does not have room service or wireless internet in the rooms. These would have been useful and are standard in most hotels. Overall a pleasant stay and as described on the website. I would recommend this to anyone needing a stopover in Lucca.

excellent place to stay nearby Lucca. You do not have problems to reach the town by foot, but could be better to have a car if you wish to visit Lucca in the night, just for your security. The hotel is clean and confortable. There is a Mc donald in front of it and a Irish pub 5 minute walk. It worth the prize.

I suggest to put signs on the street where the guest should turn to come to the hotel. It's a little bit complicated and I came only with the help of GPS. Even I was confused to return to the hotel by car from the Mac Donalds that is just over the small street. All the rest is excellent.

Italy, Dec 2007
We stayed for just one night and the hotel was pretty good. it's very close to the highway, but a little bit hard to find, it needs better signs along the road. The room wasn't that big, but very nice and confortable, probably the best bed ever found in any hotel, with good pillows. The bathroom was tiny but clean. I loved the wooden floor instead of the usual moquette which is usually rather dirty in other hotels. The staff were absolutely good and nice, and the waitresses one the floor very smiling and kind. The breakfast was really good, we asked for a cappuccino and we had it in a few minutes. The cakes were absolutely great. You have to drive to reach the town center, but it's worth the stay.

Excellent price for value, business class economy rates. Very smart rooms, clean ultra modern bathrooms, excellent breakfast with scrambled egg and bacon. The girl at reception advised us on a brilliant restaurant around the corner. Not close enough to Lucca to walk, used the car. Only negatives were that there were no blankets in the room, and it was a coolish night at the begining of autumn, too tired to ask for one. Also on the ground floor, didn't realise people were passing the window, almost too late.

Although not within the walls of Lucca's historic center, the Eurostars Toscana was very conveniently located only about a 5 minute drive away. The hotel didn't look like much from the outside, but it was very modern and hip inside. The rooms were clean, w/a trendy modern decor, a decent size, and very quiet. The hotel had free parking, friendly & English-speaking staff, and was right next to the highway ramp, which made it convenient when we had to drive back to the Pisa airport the next day.

This hotel is conveniently located, although somewhat difficult to find. It similar to moderately priced chains in the USA, but with a European feel; good value off-season. Excellent parking, typical continental style buffet breakfast that is adequate, comfortable rooms with larger than average bathrooms. The staff was very helpful and spoke good English. Wireless internet access carries a charge. Nice place to stay, our experience was positive, would definitely stay here again.

Rooms need to have tea and coffee making facilities and a better seating area to relax away from the room to read etc. All Hotel staff were really helpful and friendly and spoke excellent English. The hotel was localted near the road, so it was very noisy. You have to be afortunated if not go to the autoroad when trying to arrive at the hotel. Breakfast was not very complet and coffe was cold.
United Kingdom, Sep 2006
Breakfast was a disappointment. The variety was average but in particular I would comment on the service - the breakfast hour finished at 10.30 during the week - At 9.45 staff had already begun setting up lunch and as a result a very unwelcoming atmosphere was I feel created. The staff did bring additional items if requested and language may have been an issue but to arrive at 10am and have to remove lunch glasses etc from a table to sit down was not what I expected -or those who arrived after me! Onthe last morning of our stay we had no glasses or cups and 2 plates for a dining room of 10 people! Reception staff very helpful. Location was fine once the road system was negotiated - this was not clear from the directions. Very convenient for travel to Lucca and other areas.

Extremely clean hotel a real pleasure to be in when you coming back after spending day out, absolutely best breakfast we had in Italy which is included in price. Downsides: it is not very easy to reach by public tranportation. Hotel bus can only take 50 people at a time so don't expect to get to the centre of the city with it every day. Alternatives to get out: Taxi(just keep your hand up on the street and they will stop) approximately 12 Euros to the nearest subway station (not bad if you have 3-4 people going), or bus 1 Euro to the same place. Bus is good to come back at night after 20:00. Remember whatever you take during peak hours will get stuck in traffic. Second issue is that there is no place where you can buy food at night. Restorant is closed and you in the middle of industrial area. Make sure your stomac is not empty on the way to the hotel. And friendly hint for everyone:do not hire taxi at the airport, they will try to nail you for 60-70 euros at least. Go to Termini station by train(9.50 Euros) and from the front square at Termini get regular taxi approximately 20 Euros to the hotel. When you walking to the square ignore annoing people offering "help".

The hotel offered an excellent quality/price ratio and fulfilled our expectations. Employees were extremely kind and competent. Rooms were new, well furnished, clean and quiet, althuogh suites for couples with children were not avalivable. Complimentary breakfast, minibar, and satellite tv were a plus. The hotel is convenient if travelling by car, with easy access from highways and lot of parking space, but (although quite near Lucca)not in walking distance (at least with children). Only negatives: the immediate surroundings are poor and the hotel is poorly signalled and hard to find on arrival.

As a party of eight including 4 children we found the hotel and accommodation to be of a high standard. We had an evening meal in the hotel which was competatively priced and the staff were happy to accommodate the children's requests. Whilst the hotel is located on the outskirts of Lucca if you're travelling by car this shouldn't be too much of a problem and I would think that this is reflected in the price. If this hotel was central Lucca it would undoubtably be more expensive. I would have no hesitation in using the hotel again.

This place is ideally situated for a short over night stay next to Lucca. We were there for the Puccini festival in Viarregio a little way down the road, the hotel staff were greaat and suggested a route for us to avoid the traffic, great. A brand new hotel, great facility. Two issues to be aware of: 1) the hotel is not close to the historic district and 2) the hotel is located right next to the AutoStrada, so I thought there was a great deal of traffic noise. Room was compact but very comfortable; great bed. Rooms and public areas very well-appointed. Complimentary drinks and snacks in the lobby and water on every floor were a real convenience. However, don't expect any local charm. This is essentially a modern business hotel that happens to be located in Lucca. Note also that the map is a bit deceptive, as the hotel is not right next to the city walls, but rather just off the freeway exit for Lucca (not within walking distance of the center). We could hear freeway noise from our room, so if this is a problem request a room on the other side of the building.
