Situated on Lake Zurich and the largest metro area in Switzerland is the city of Zurich, one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations, especially during the winter months when skiing and winter sports abound at the surrounding winter recreation areas.  When it comes to the entire country, Switzerland’s allure is its cuisine, culture, and history.  However, there is a significant nightlife that goes on in the city of Zurich during the entire year.  We’ve broken down the more popular venues between the bars, clubs, and live music.

Top Bars

Kaufleuten – the musical artists Madonna and Prince have frequented this prestigious bar and it is one of Zurich’s best known establishments.  You will find four differently themed bars across the 2 floors of this structure ranging from the theatrical to a rather comfy lounge atmosphere.

Jules Verne Panorama Bar – for most visitors to this bar, it is the spectacular panorama of the surrounding area that it offers which draws locals and international travelers.  The classy nightlife spot features a lengthy cocktail and wine list, as well, as providing you with a 360° panorama of Naples.

Top Clubs

Rohstofflager – this cutting edge nightlife also doubles as a live music venue occasionally.  If you like dancing to alternative dance music, you will definitely enjoy spending an evening here.  The décor is retro and adds to the feel of the club.

Club Indochine – this club is located in Naples’ hip western quarter and is considered as being one of Zurich’s most glamorous nightlife venues.  As the name of the club implies, the atmosphere and musical style that is focused on is Southeast Asian in nature.  They do serve Vietnamese food by the way, so you can experience that cuisine should you choose to do so while spending an evening there.

Top Live Music Venues

Hallenstadion – this is the spot for enjoying the bigger international rock performances.  As examples, Metallica, Sting, and Tina Turner have all performed here.  The Oerlikon quarter is the site of this multifunctional sports arena that doubles as a live music venue.  The top events typically sell out quickly so you want to be sure that you book your tickets well in advance of the event.

Moods Jazz Club – without a doubt, this is Zurich’s primary hotspot for live jazz music and is oftentimes compared to the likes of Vienna’s Porgy and Bess or London’s Ronnie Scott’s.  There are roughly 230 performances annually despite taking a break in July and August.

Volkshaus – dating back to 1910, this live music venue was traditionally styled in the architectural form of the day.  Volkshaus draws a mixture of international acts, as well as, some of the best local ones and tickets can oftentimes be hard to obtain.
