Singapore is often seen as just a stopover point on your way to Australia or to other countries in Asia. However, Singapore is a great place to visit in its own right. Here are some reasons why!

1. It is home to many amazing attractions

The number one reason to travel to Singapore is the amazing attractions that are on offer. The first place to visit on your list should be Sentosa Island. This island is packed full of attractions for families, singles and couples. The top ones can be found at Resorts World Sentosa where you can visit the outstanding Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium (the largest aquarium in the world), Adventure Cove Waterpark and Dolphin Island where you can swim with dolphins. If you like a bit more adventure, you can also go indoor sky diving, zip lining or learn how to surf.

On top of this, Singapore is home to one of the world’s best zoos, the futuristic Gardens by the Bay or you can wonder around the old Chinatown, Little India or Kampong Glam, the home of Malay culture in Singapore.

2. There is fabulous shopping

Singapore is renowned for its excellent shopping. Orchard Road is a great place to start. International brands all have a presence here and it is a great place to buy electronics. Big shopping fans should try to be in Singapore in for the Great Singapore Sale generally held in June and July. This sale runs for two months and prices are slashed by up to 70% across the city.

3. There is some of the best food in the world

Thanks to the cultural diversity in Singapore there are some fabulous food options. The three main ethnic groups in Singapore are Chinese, Malay and Indian and you can find superb food in each of these categories. There are also food choices across all cuisines and the quality is very high. Food hygiene practices in Singapore are also high, so you don’t need to worry about the upset stomaches that can be associated with eating in some Asian countries.

There are some excellent top restaurants, but you can also eat some great meals at your local hawker centre – outside food court areas packed full of food stores, tables and people. These are an excellent way to try out lots of different food.

4. It is clean, orderly and easy to get around

Another plus of Singapore is that it is very clean, tidy and orderly. There is a great train system which makes it very easy to get around. If you ever have any problems, the people are polite, friendly and helpful.

5. There are fabulous accommodation options

Singapore has an amazing array of accommodation options from 5 stay hotels to capsule hotels. If you would like to stay somewhere unique, try the historic Hotel Fort Canning. This Singapore luxury boutique hotel is perfect for couples and families and extremely well located surrounded by parkland but only ten minutes walk from multiple train lines and attractions.
