Venice is my fav place in Italy..I live in a smaller town close to Venice and love spending a sunny day strolling along the "calle", eating out and enjoy the peacefulness of a "cars free town". I can highly recommend some more areas for good and unexpensive food in Dorsoduro, around Campo Santa Margherita and Campo San Rocco. If you really want to use the vaporetto than get a 3days or a week pass unless you wish to spend 6,50Euro for a single ride :( (not a time ticket though!).
