1. Portable washing machine
Have you ever traveled for an extended period of time? At the end of the trip every piece of clothing is dirty and smelly, despite all the hand washing in the world. How about a small and light portable washing machine? It is ideal for traveling, camping, boating or caravaning .
2. Butterfly Music Speaker Pillow
Forget messy headphones and broken wires on your next road trip or on a long flight! The Butterfly Music Speaker Pillow is a sound system with volume control built into a pillow. It’s made of soft and comfortable plush and plays all your favorite music tracks. Thanks to its small size you can bring it wherever you want and have a relaxing rest.
3. Aloe Comfort Travel Socks

4. “Point It: Traveller’s Language Kit” by Dieter Graf
You want to travel the world without speaking a word of English or you don’t have the time to learn the language of the country you are traveling to? The picture guide-book called “Point It” includes hundreds of pictures of useful items that you might need anywhere in the world, from roast chicken to toilet paper. This handy pocket guide has no boundaries, it can be used in every country, from Bhutan to Germany. If you ever have tried to buy pharmaceuticals in a small foreign drugstore you will understand why this is such a useful book! You just have to point to a picture of what you want and forget about the language barrier problems you had in the past, struggling yourself in pronouncing difficult foreign words or trying to mime “red wine”. The items are grouped into different categories such as accommodation, food and drink, travel, entertainment, health and much more.
5. Travel slippers
Leather travel slippers with zip fastening are the ultimate in comfort and style. Thanks to the lateral zip opening they are easy to tuck in every corner of your bag.

Have you ever seen that kind of “purse hook” that women use to hang their handbag from the edge of the table and keep it safe from thieves and away from the dirty floor? I can’t say if it’s really a useful accessory or a just another stupid gadget that everybody wants. I just guess it’s also a travel accessory since all the women I’ve seen using that purse hook in Rome were tourists.

Multiplug. The small, 3 plugs in one socket converter device that lets you SHARE the only electrical outlet available in the airport waiting area with other travelers (or lets you charge your IPOD and your cell phone while you top off your laptop computer’s battery, all at the same time). They are about 3 inches wide, an inch and a half deep and tall, and fit in your carryon/backpack nicely. When you find that there are already two people plugged in, you can still get your own electrons without unplugging anyone else. In your hotel room it also makes it easy to keep all your electronics in one place by the nightstand (or in the drawer for safety). Cheap, small, lightweight, and very effective.

Maybe it is because I use a MAC, but I could not find any links to the products mentioned here! Would have been helpful!

:)
umm, soooo many jokes about mac users come to mind here - but I shall (painfully) refrain!
The multiplug can be found at drug stores, hardware stores, and the like. Should not cost more than perhaps 3 dollars US, comes in ivory or bright white.
Now, they make a 6-plug version, but that is much more than twice as large as the one showed. It’s fun to get reactions from other travelers in need.

Dear All,
The Washing Machine is produced by Aston, it was launched two years ago and should be available on their home page www.astone.com.au.
Point it and the Butterfly Music Pillow Speaker can by bought both on www.amazon.com.
I found the Travel Socks on magellans.com, a very interesting web site that provides a wide selection of travel products, from women’s clothing to travel essentials and gift ideas.
The handmade luxury travel slippers are made of fine Italian leather and are a creation of the Italian shoe designer Franceschetti (www.franceschetti.it).
Hope you will find this information about “useless travel gadgets” useful!
