Berlin enjoys a very well-connected, relatively inexpensive, and efficient public transportation system. There are two main airports in the city: Berlin Tegel (TXL), located in the northwest and Berlin Schoenefeld (SXF), located in the southeast. Both are international airports, but Schoenefeld mostly caters to charter flights and low-budget carriers like EasyJet and Ryanair. Tegel is considered the current official international airport of Berlin, but that is soon to change in 2011 when Schoenefeld becomes Berlin’s sole airport.

Berlin is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, especially during the summer months when the weather is conducive to enjoying the outdoors and the glorious sunshine! Some may require getting to the venue early to secure good seats, but there is no entry fee.

Along Schlesischestrasse, one of the unsung cooler streets of Berlin, there are a number of sites for today’s nomad/city-dweller, and, strangely enough, they’re all on one side of the street. You can easily move between furniture boutiques, cafes, galleries, boutiques and record shops without ever even having to cross the street.

Plus if you tuck back into some of the buildings, you’ll find some really great graffiti and street art. read full article

The website of Deutsche Bahn, the German rail company, is advertising new through tickets for visitors from the UK to travel to Berlin from London by train.

This is an attempt to claw some of the market for weekend trips back from the low-cost airlines and is billed as ‘a comfortable and time-saving alternative to flying.’ With environmental issues still pressing for us all but economic concerns becoming ever more immediate, it would seem that there is indeed a market for this product family. read full article
