This year’s Rugby Championship will be the annual competition that pits the Rugby Union teams of Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa against one another for the 17th time (first championship was in 1996).     Perth, the capital of Western Australia, is one of the most remote cities on earth, being separated even from the other cities of its own country by the hazardous wastes of a desert and the sheer distance of a continental landmass. However, once you have made the journey, Perth is a city that is laid back, cosmopolitan and one of the most attractive places in Australia. This has not, yet, been reflected in terms of visitor numbers although there are signs that this is beginning to change.

    There was a time, long ago, when Sydney and Australia more generally were famous, even among the English, as being very dull places to eat. Thankfully this has changed drastically and Sydney now has a huge variety of food available to compete with Los Angeles, another great pacific basin melting pot.
