With very warm temperatures throughout the year and the Atlantic Ocean on its western and southern coasts, Portugal is an ideal location for surfers. There are many surf schools which cater to all abilities. Here are the top five Portuguese surf schools.
Sagres Natura Surf Camp – found on Portugal’s south west tip, this surf school is dedicated solely to surfing. Able to teach surfers of all abilities about how to ride any wave which comes their way, this surf school is situated in an area which is protected by environmental laws. Therefore, you can enjoy surfing in unspoilt surroundings.
Surf Silver Coast – also able to cater to surfers of all abilities, this surf school runs weekend classes and day classes too. Not only can holiday makers enjoy surfing in-between other activities but so too can the local residents thanks to afternoon classes.
Foz Camp – ideally named because the phrase ‘jumping the shark’ was named after a scene in the TV show Happy Days where Arthur Fonzarelli leaped over a shark, Foz Camp is actually situated in Foz do Arelho. Lessons are run by experienced surfers in classes which give a personal touch. Not only can you be taught how to surf in large classes but also one-on-one as well.
Baleal Surf Camp – an hour away from Lisbon, accommodation is available at this surf camp. With tours and camps also at this surfing school, it is only thirty metres away from a beach which offers some of the most consistent waves in Europe.
Alentejo Surf Camp – based in the south west, the Alentejo Surf Camp offers accommodation and surfaris as well. Located in the Vila Nova de Milfontes, this surf camp also offers lessons to people of all abilities. Even if you haven’t surfed before, the Alentejo Surf Camp enables you to do so.
