Venere Reveals Top Italian Destinations: Focus on Domestic and American Tourists

Rome, July 10 –, the Online Accommodation Specialist, reports that both local and American tourists are increasingly choosing to spend their summer in the smaller, cheaper and less traditionally touristy towns of the Bel Paese.
According to, Expedia’s Rome-based OTA, while reservation growth for Rome and Venice are slowing down as compared to last year, small towns within Tuscany, Apulia and Emilia Romagna are growing. So who is going there and why?

Let us start with the North of Italy, the top of the boot, we have Emilia-Romagna and Liguria where coincidentally Porto Venere (not related to is seeing 134 percent growth, of which 27 percent are Italians and 25 percent Americans. Rio Maggiore, of the famous Cinque Terre, is also seeing a 19 percent uptake overall where a quarter is coming from the US.
Next we come into Umbria, where Spoleto, home to the summer festival of the arts, is growing 48 percent, mainly driven by Italians, who make up 75 percent of the bookings. Americans are choosing more traditional Tuscany towns like Radda in Chianti (up 56 percent).
