wine bar in Seville, Spain

Despite the allure that Seville of the Andalusian region of Spain holds for the locals and international travelers, there is nothing that can compare with the unique cuisine found in the region. And that cuisine would never be complete without a glass or bottle of an excellent wine. You will quickly discover that there are two basic dining venues when venturing around Seville – Tapas (or smaller portions) or visiting a restaurant featuring the traditional cuisine. Interestingly enough, these two types of faire blend rather well.

But let’s talk about that thirst quencher, that perfect compliment to a delectable dish – namely the wine that is unlike any other in Europe. For the purposes of creating some sort of guide for the international traveler, we have compiled a list of the 4 most popular and recommended wine bars in Seville in order to help you narrow down your search.

  • Casa Cuesta

Located at Zaragoza 50 near Plaza Nueva, Triana. The district of Triana has a history dating back to 1880 and this restaurant and Tapas bar has been in only been in existence for a couple of years now. Once you have been seated at the bar, take your time perusing the huge assortment of carnes (meat), chacina (cured meats), mariscos (shellfish), and pescado (fish). And by all means, don’t forget the wine list.

  • La Alacena de San Eloy

Located in the center of the San Eloy district. Rated as having the best wine selection in all of Seville, this Tapas bar has a bright orange interior and ambience that is totally unique. This is a smoke-free environment so keep that in mind but the food and the wines make this a worthwhile establishment to visit whether you are a smoker or not. Excellent cuisine, tapas, and wine are always the standard.

  • Bar Santa Marta

Located in Plaza San Andrés. Here you will find the tastiest flamenquin in all of Spain. Flamenquin is pork that is wrapped in ham, stuffed with cheese, and then deep-fried, and it measures 12” in length so it is enough for two people to say the least. This is clearly one of the nicer restaurants and has one of the lengthiest wine lists in Seville.

  • Cafe Bar La Universal

Located in Plaza Salvador. This is one of the more popular bars because of the extensive menu and wine list, so be prepared for a crowd and a bit of a wait, especially if you intend on enjoying a seat at the bar. Best of all, outdoor dining and drinking is the key feature of this establishment. The outdoor seating wraps around the corner wine bar so being a popular location is no surprise.

Enjoy the beautiful weather, exotic countryside and serene ambience with the best wine!
