Travel Agony Aunt received the following question from a traveler in agony:

Dear Travel Agony Aunt,
I was looking for a small and cheap apartment in Rome online and was wondering what the difference is between serviced apartments, self catering apartments and town house suites offered on your Venere website.
Kristín, 39, Reykjavík, Iceland

Dear Kristin,
This is a question that I have heard lots of times during my long career here at venere.com. I am glad it came up again so that I can answer it in this new column the fine folks at Venere gave me for my 63rd birthday!

Serviced Apartments feature a living area, bedroom, private bathroom and often a kitchen or kitchenette. They are managed, maintained and cleaned for you daily, as you would expect from a hotel. In these “residences”, as they are called here in Italy, guests can also find public areas like restaurants or breakfast rooms.

If you want to stay in Rome for longer periods there is also another option. In fact many people prefer the freedom of a self catering apartment because it gives them more independence and a real feel for the country. Self Catering Apartments have fully equipped kitchens, bathrooms and everything else you need to make you feel right at home. Usually, these apartments don’t have daily maid service and are cleaned when you arrive. If you are staying for a long time, usually there is maid service on a weekly basis.

Town House Suites
are rooms that are often located in charming and elegant historic buildings, have private bathroom and are equipped with all modern facilities. You can enjoy all the benefits of a private apartment while using some of the services offered by hotels such as breakfast. In other words, the guest rooms offer the same comfort of a good hotel located in a central area without losing privacy and discretion. Town house suites are similar to bed and breakfasts.

Have a good time in Rome, and if you happen to be in the Camilluccia area, pop in at venere.com headquarters and say hi!
