Italian pasta with clams

Believe it or not, the person who coined the phrase, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do” was right on the money, especially when it comes to the wide array of cuisine available to you – or more specifically, when seafood is the primary focus for your palate. The concept of a grand banquet or feast dates back to ancient times, and quality seafood at a fair price is not exception to this rule.

Italian seafood can be found on most menus throughout the city, but to truly appreciate the cuisine that the city affords you, you will need to experience it at one of the truly fine seafood restaurants in town. The following is the top three recommendations for excellent seafood faire while visiting the city of Rome based on affordability, popularity and quality of experience:

1. Da Franco ar Vicoletto

Situated in the heart of San Lorenzo’s student population this is one of the more budget conscious seafood restaurants in Rome. Don’t the price influence your thinking – this is some of the best seafood you will find anywhere in Rome. The key to this restaurant is that it is geared to large parties of diners in that the more people you have in your group, the more freely the food flows from the kitchen to your table.

2. La Penna d’Oca

Located near Piazza del Popolo, this old osteria has been skillfully transformed into one of the most unique restaurants that you will find anywhere in the city. The menu is reminiscent of what you would have found in Sardinia from centuries gone by and will satiate the pickiest of palates. A serene atmosphere with comfortable seating helps you to fully enjoy the flavors that abound on this menu.

3. La Rosetta

The fishing gear and nets that adorn this restaurant’s walls make it quite clear that you are dining in one of the top-rated seafood establishments in all of Rome. Despite the popularity and the oftentimes crowded atmosphere, you will quickly discover how intimate your dining experience can truly be when savoring one of the many fine entrees this restaurant has to offer.

I compleatly agree with the 3 restaurants, i tested them all three personally. But I think that the Sa Tanca Crostaceria should be added to the list as well. they make some marvolous sea food!
