Like many other Northern European cities, Berlin really comes to life during summer. The transformation from grey and chilly to lush and sparkly makes the locals stir from their winter slumber and draws masses of tourists on the hunt for the ultimate Berlin summer experience. Nightlife moves out into the streets and in the daytime, the parks abound with sun worshipers. The nights are long and the days are hot. So hot, in fact, that we’ve decided to list the best spots to cool down in Berlin. You may think that the distance to the coast makes for a sticky time in the city, but naturally, the Berliners solve this problem in their usual creative way.

It is a pool. In a river. With a beach. Yes, it is Badeschiff, the location to spend your summer days – and the nights. In the daytime, you can lounge on the pier, admiring the view of the Spree gently flowing through central Berlin, with the TV tower to your left and the famous Molecule Men statue rising up to your right. If you arrive early you may just be able to snatch one of the hammocks, or, head to the beach area and flop down on one of the huge beds that stand around in the sand. When you start to bake in the sun, the pool, a recycled cargo container which has been lowered into the river, awaits. The best part? There is no need to ever go home! The little Imbiss serves food, the beach bar ensures that you stay refreshed and at night, Badeschiff throws fabulous beach parties and concerts.
Bar 25 is a Berlin icon – a club, bar, hotel and restaurant, this open-air venue is famous for its decadent parties that last forever. Recently, a skateboarding rink was set up, as well as an outdoor pool, keeping the glittering in-crowd cool after hours of dancing.
If you prefer to at least have the impression of getting out of the city, head to one of the lakes in and about Berlin. These watering holes are usually surrounded by lush nature and the water is clean and cool. Schlachtensee and Wannsee are two of the most popular lakes, both easy to reach with the S-bahn. A perfect getaway for the day, leaving you refreshed and ready for another Berlin night!

I love the pool in a river idea. Especially where it is located. I had such a great time there.
