Travel Agony Aunt received the following question from traveller in distress M.B.K., 49 years old, Ireland:

Dear Travel Agony Aunt,
We are a group of 12 going to Paris for the weekend. We will be staying near the Place de la Republique. Any suggestions for a good restaurant which could cater for this group and will they take a reservation? Thanks and good luck with this blog!

Dear M.B.K.
Do not despair! My nephew in Paris informs me that the whole area between Place de la République and Bastille, particularly Rue Oberkampf, is filled with typical French bistrots, brasseries, wine bars and ethnic restaurants. Even if you don’t book, chances that you and your party will fall victims to an empty stomach are extremely low.
Travel Agony Aunt escpecially recommends:

  • Le Royal République
This brasserie style restaurant is located on 11 Place de la République and is escpecially famous for its great salads and yummy desserts. Reservations can be made by phone at (+33) 1 42 72 31 44.
  • Léon de Bruxelles
On 8 Place de la République you will find Léon de Bruxelles, popular with locals and famous for its mouth watering moules (mussels) with French fries. The place is very busy so reservations are recommended. Contact the restaurant at (+33) 1 43 38 28 69.

I wish you happy times on your Paris vacation. Do let me know how the food situation worked out for you!

OK so far - lets see how it goes
Having been to Paris several times all I can say is Have a good time - plenty of good places to eat.
Should have no trouble finding a place.

I brought a group of 25 to Paris last year and we went to the famous Le Chartier. The food is ‘peasant French’ and real cheap, wine’s about tenner a bottle. The waiters will probably be pleasant! The menu is different everyday but there’s loads to pick from. They write the bill on the tablecloth when you’re done. 350 seats – it’s been going strong since 1896. We loved it and I absolutely recommend it even though its a little outside your area.

There are a great many more around the Place. I have always enjoyed Chez Jenny for their Alsatian menu. A change in menu and always very pleasant.
