When you come out on a family holiday, everyone’s interest needs to be cared for.
New Delhi is a historically beautiful but busy city, being the capital of the country. In case, you are on the look for a day of relaxation and fun, go to Appu Ghar which is close to Pragati Maidan Exhibition Center.
Have fun at Appu Ghar amusement park
Well, you cannot compare it to your own country’s amusement park as it may not be very technologically friendly but the kids will love it. From a mini roller coaster to Appu Columbus (ship shaped swing) and many other rides to suit all ages, you can definitely rewind. With a variety of food available in small eateries, a meal will cost you about less than $5 per head J. I know it seems impossible, but true! So, head out for a great day at water rides (only in summer) and interesting rides.
There are other amusement parks around Delhi that is in Gurgaon, Haryana which is about 45 minutes from Connaught place. Paces like Aapno Ghar water park and Fun and Food Village are known to be pretty exciting too.
Visit New Delhi’s kid-friendly museums
For those who love to visit the museums, National Museum is the best bet. Artifacts range from the Indus Valley civilization to the Mughal Empire, amazing antique bronze sculptures and the whole history is presented well. You can actually say that the museum is a treasure trove of information and artifacts on the past of the country.
The National Science Museum is another good place where kids would love tinkering about. Few of the lesser known museums are the Rail Museums where there is a huge collection of old engines and palatial bogies that belonged to the Royalty in India. Kids would love to ride in a mini toy train which takes them around the whole place. There is a refreshment stall and rest rooms available.
The Air Force Museum is another interesting place for kids, quite near the Palam Airport. It houses remains of tanks, aircrafts and some aircrafts that used to fly long back. You can buy some Indian Air Force mementos like T shirts and stuff like that there.
Enjoy a family day out at Damdama Lake and Badhkal Lake
However, for those with an outdoor interest, the winter months are ideal for picnics and boating. Head out to Damdama lake, Badhkal lake and visit the Sultanpur birds sanctuary for a having fun. All these places have refreshment stalls and restrooms. Winters in Delhi are usually sunny so picnics and outdoors are good way of spending time together.
There are added attractions like elephant rides and camel rides for both kids and adults which can be a novel experience to visitors.
I am sure while you travel around these helpful hints would make your trip enjoyable and fun!

Hello Anita Choudhary,
We are planning on coming to New Delhi to begin our vacation. We hope to go to see the Taj Mahal and the River Ganges Aarti.
In your opinion is it better book a tour before we arrive or is it fairly common to join a tour from the hotel once we arrive?
Since you are based in New Delhi, India, do you have any advice for the weather in June? Is it true there is no need to worry about malaria mosquitos in June? Appreciate your reply. Would you estimate that there are very few Western style toilets in India – are are there at least 1 per restroom like in Japan?
Thank you. Hope you can answer my queries. Gail.

Dear Gail,
I know it is little late to answer you. But it will be for other people too reading this informative post about Delhi.
It is always better to book tour before you are arriving in India. Weather in June is Hot and just need light cotton linen clothing. Yes there is no need to worry about mosquito in North India but it is always better to take medication with you.
Now India has changed a lot now you can find western toilets in almost all the hotels in metros. But sometimes there can be problem if you are going in Indian Villages.
Thanks , Ashu
