Saturday, March 29th, 2014

Villa Carlotta is considered to be the most beautiful villa in Italy and it is easy to see why. The villa is located in Tremezzo on the shores of Lake Como in northern Italy and has 70,000 square meters of gardens and a museum. It was constructed at the end of the 17th century by the Milanese marquis, Giorgio Clerici. Villa Carlotta is situated in a natural basin between Lake Como and the Alps, which provides a spectacular setting.

The Villa has some of Italy’s most stunning botanical gardens too that covers approximately eight hectares. In front of the villa there are geometrical flowerbeds, small basins, grotesques and fountains. The Italian garden contains beautiful steps where visitors can enjoy camellias, papyrus, two large tunnels of citruses and the roses that decorate the walls. There is a wonderful view of the Italian garden from the terraces, with its stone balustrade and statues of mythological divinities. At the center of the Italian garden there is a large eighteenth-century basin that contains a statue of Arion of Metimna. The gardens also have a rhododendron wood with a large number of trees with beautiful flowers. There is also a 3000 square-meter bamboo garden that uses the designs and techniques of a Japanese garden. The bamboo garden has 25 species of bamboo, some of which are rare.

The villa itself has a fabulous museum containing many works of art, including masterpieces by Antonio Canova, Adamo Tadolini, Francesco Hayez Bertel Thorvaldsen, Jean-Baptiste Wicar and Andrea Appiani. Villa Carlotta is about 30 kilometers from Tremezzo, which is a fabulous place to stay in the Lake Como part of Italy. There is plenty of accommodation in Tremezzo that will suit all budgets. Take a look at Tremezzo hotels, Italy and see if you can grab yourself a fantastic deal. Be sure to visit the wonderful Villa Carlotta and Lake Como while you are in this stunning part of Italy.
