Top 5 Restaurants in Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Monday, May 18th, 2009

For many international travelers, the Canary Islands have always been a popular tourist destination and the island of Lanzarote, which lies to the easternmost limits of the Canary’s, offers much to be experienced.

Lanzarote Food

From lunches cooked using geothermal heat to “timple” recitals, there is something for every visitor’s tastes. You can visit the island’s famous volcanoes via either camelback or helicopter. One way or the other, when you visit Lanzarote, you should not count on doing a lot of walking due to the fact that the Saharan winds are typically hot and sandy, and sometimes both.

The four most visited cities on the island of Lanzarote are Arrecife, Costa Teguise, Playa Blanca, and Puerto del Carmen, and despite the fact that other islands such as Tenerife may have a more energetic nightlife, Lanzarote has plenty of it to keep the tourist happy. As far as restaurants are concerned, there is an abundance. The cuisine on the main streets of the island target the more international tastes, so if it’s authentic cuisine that you are looking for, you may need to wander off the beaten path a bit.

The following is a list of the top 5 pubs and restaurants to experience while visiting the island of Lanzarote:

1. Bar Bastian Restaurant in Costa Teguise

A bar and restaurant situated at the base of Playa Bastian facing the beach and is a family-run, friendly bar and restaurant. There are snacks served daily and an a la carte menu for your dinner choices. Additionally, there is great entertainment and live music nightly.

2. The Crowded House in Puerto del Carmen

A great live music bar located in Puerto del Carmen‘s Old Town. The establishment features an open bar plan that is set in a laid back, relaxing atmosphere. Enjoy great music and of course a couple of drinks (or more) while you’re visiting.

3. Villa Toledo Restaurant in Costa Teguise

Situated at Playa Bastian. You are afforded stunning views of the sea from this establishment that occupies the first house ever built in Costa Teguise nearly 60 years ago. The restaurant features a splendid menu featuring fish and meats that are prepared in a wood burning oven.

4. Restaurante El Bodegón in Puerto del Carmen

Features a recreated Spanish wine cellar and a menu specializing in a variety of dishes e.g. Castillian tapas, cheeses, hams, and montaditos (tasty little sandwiches).

5. L’Artista Ristorante and Pizzeria in Playa Blanca

You will feel like you’re in the midst of an authentic Italian establishment that features a special selection of pasta dishes like “Cartoccio” or “Mare e Monti” as well as a variety of homemade pastas. And be sure to try their Pizza Artista while experiencing this restaurant.

Revel in the delights of the sunny weather and enjoy the cool pubs and lip smacking cuisine at Lanzarote.

I dont know if is the right website but i would like to write a review for this restaurant:

just came back from my long holyday in Lanzarote where we spent a great time.
We went to Mammacarlas restaurant,: what an experience!
What you don’t expect is that for the price you pay –
Ramon , our server, provided the best service I’ve experienced in many years as a foodie. He was on point with all of his recommendations, knew the menu and the food very well. He kept us informed on the status of our meals, made sure the table always had fresh bread and ensured we were very satisfied.
(They do the bread at moment)

Met the owner_Chef , Gregorio who explained the dishes, and the adventure in Lanzarote.

We shared a cheese platter as an appetizer.
Fantastic assortment of fresh gourmet cheeses, fried meatballs to tantalize your pallate.
It paired beautifully with the bottle of Italian chianti we ordered.

I ordered what was perhaps the best rigatoni ever made – mammacarlas speciality – rigatoni .

We all had a rich and delicious homemade deserts – finishing off our evening to perfection.

To come to MAMMACARLAS is an experience that must be had.
I am sure it will maintain the same level of quality and service as it does now, a restaurant still in its infancy.

Most definitely good experience at a VERY affordable price.

Hello i will write two reviews about restaurants we had dinner, i ‘ll begin with restaurant That’S Amore in Puerto del Carmen:
. We must have got the restaurant on a bad day as we found the whole experience extremely disappointing. We paid Euro140 for four people for dinner, without being at all extravagant on wine, and at this price we expected something outstanding. In reality, we had one good course each and everything else was poor. To start with the dining room lacked atmosphere and certainly had no trace of the style we expected from what is billed as an Italian restaurant – it felt cold and sterile with service that was poor robotic even.
The food was really disappointing . This was such a shame as we were expecting so much better. we ate two spagetti and mushrooms, carbonara (with no pepper).
The pizza was very hard diccult even to eat. I really can’t recommend That’s Amore restaurant at these prices.
