Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

With its historic architecture, cuisine, and culture, Rome is still one of the most targeted tourist destinations in Italy if not the entire European continent.  There are numerous reasons to vacation in the city but the primary draws have always been the food and the shopping.  Italian cuisine is everywhere you go in and around the city, but if you are looking for international dishes, you will be richly rewarded as well.

If your passion is cuisine from India, you will never be disappointed with the many choices available.  The following is a list of the better Indian restaurants in Rome to consider whenever you vacation in the city:

Krishna 13 – probably the best in Indian cuisine that you will find anywhere in Rome.  The atmosphere, food, service, and value are all rated as excellent.  The average plate runs about €20 to €25 ($26 to $32).  As many locals and international travelers have said, if you want the best in Indian food, this is the place to go.

Himalaya’s Kashmir – this establishment offers fine Indian cuisine as well but they also include several Pakistani dishes on the menu as well.  This restaurant comes highly recommended as does Krishna 13 above.  The fascinating Asian atmosphere of this comfortable and warm setting adds to the enjoyment of the evening.

Maharajah – this is one of the most elegant and pristinely furnished Indian restaurants in the entire city.  Three chefs, all from India, create some of the most outstanding dishes you will ever taste.  However, don’t overlook the a la carte menu or the fact that there is a buffet and even Vegetarian dishes available.

Bibliothe – this is a nice break from the standard Indian cuisine and offers Vegetarian faire as well.  The food is flavorful and nothing short of outstanding.  It features a relaxing atmosphere as well and the service is excellent.

Sehgal Sanjiv – another one of the highly recommended Indian restaurants whose atmosphere, food, service, and value are all rated as excellent.  It is a bit pricier than some of the other Indian restaurants in Rome.  The typical dinner can run up to €30 ($38).

Mother India – home of the some of the best Indian curry dishes in Rome.  The restaurant is located near the Coliseum so after an afternoon of visiting and exploring this historical structure, this restaurant is a great ending to your day before returning to your hotel.  It is located on the Via de Serpenti which is an excellent setting for an after dinner stroll.

Surya Mahal – situated in the heart of Rome, this establishment offers seating in a garden terrace setting so you can enjoy an excellent meal while enjoying the outdoors at the same time.  The food is excellent and the service is top quality.
