Easy Halloween Recipes and Treats

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012

In the USA when it comes to fun, the best holiday is without a doubt Halloween. It’s a time when kids and adults come out to play, disguise themselves in costumes and have parties. It’s a time for Jack O’ Lanterns, decorations, spooky looking food and tasty treats. Your children can help you prepare some of these Halloween recipes and you can be ready and waiting with some spooky delights when the neighbor’s kids come trick or treating.

Halloween Spooky Treats

Spooky drinks – Ghost milkshakes are easy to prepare. Use melted chocolate to paint ghostly faces on the inside of the glass. Once the chocolate has dried, you can make a vanilla milkshake with milk and ice cream and then top it with the whipped cream piped to a point.

A creepy fruit cocktail goes down well as a fun drink. You can do adult versions with mixers or alcohol-free cocktails. Punches are also a great hit. You can concoct your own brews, using food colourings and fruits to make the colours creepy and yucky – try green, red or brown. Dress them up with pretend eyeballs, for example, using lychees. If you are concocting a witch’s brew, make some ice cubes with creepy gum candies inside, for extra effect.

Spooky but warming soup – Once the kids have gone round doing their trick or treating, what better than a warming soup to greet them on their return. Tomato soup resembles blood. Add a spooky artistic touch with a spider web design in sour cream. Use a toothpick, dragging the cream outwards from the centre.

Cut bats and spiders out of cheese and sprinkle them on top. This also works well on chilli or a cassarole.

Halloween sweet treats – Transform apples into green monsters. Cut a wedge out across the apple as a mouth. Let the kids decorate their monsters using festive sweets.

Cupcakes can be transformed into whatever creepy designs you like, such as black cats, monsters, and pumpkins, using icing, cream and frosting of different colours.

Gingerbread men can become mummies when you use chocolate chips for eyes and pipe white icing over the whole body like bandages with just the chocolate chip eyes showing.
