Glasgow, Scotland has long attracted adults with its artistic, edgy vibe, but you might be surprised to find out how much there is for kids to do in the city.
• TAG Theatre Company
TAG Theatre Company puts on performances by and for young people and children. There are weekly drama classes, workshops and productions with themes like ‘15 Minute Shakespeare’ and ‘Museums of Dreams’ which involves fantastic puppets. Call in advance for booking.
• Glasgow Science Centre
Glasgow Science Centre has plenty to enthrall the family. The Science Mall is packed with interactive exhibits. Plus there is a planetarium and an IMAX theatre, currently showing The Dark Knight. A ride to the Glasgow Tower gives a panoramic view of the city.
• The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has an eclectic collection with something for everyone, from fine and decorative art to natural history. Your kids can check out Sir Rodger the Elephant, fossils of marine life from the Glasgow area, and a massive collection of armour. The building is surrounding by the beautiful Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow’s West End.
• The Tall Ship
The Tall Ship at Glasgow Harbour known as the Glenlee was built in 1896. Your family can explore this 245 feet long ship and learn about maritime history. It’s open year round except some holidays.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg! Glasgow has a lot of other activities for kids to enjoy such as the World Pipe Band Championship and Paddle Steamer boat trips on the River Clyde. Cinderella on Ice is for adults as well as kids. It is not a show based on the pantomime version, but more on the original European subject, and will be better described as “A Cinderella Story’. So don’t expect Buttons/Pumpkins/Fairey Gogmother et al.
