Pubs and Cocktail Bars in Dubai

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

One of the seven emirates that comprise the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and by far the most popular of them all, is Dubai.  Currently, it is more like an independent city/state, as well as, being the most modern and progressive one of the seven emirates.  It has been developing at a staggering pace in the past two decades, especially where the tourist and trade sectors are concerned.  Consequently, many international travelers gain a real interest for relocating and working here as a result of its booming economy.

If it’s the nightlife that you enjoy when you are on vacation, Dubai can accommodate you unlike most other cities in the Middle East and throughout the UAE.  You want to be aware that it is illegal to drink in public in Dubai.  This is why alcohol is only available at licensed premises that are typically affiliated with the different hotels in the city.  The following will give you a better idea of the better pubs and cocktail bars in Dubai that are worth visiting when you are vacationing in the city.

Buddha Bar – this establishment is located in the ritzy marine development of the city and can be found within the Grovesnor House Hotel Complex.  There are 3 sections that you can visit and enjoy – a bar, a lounge, and a restaurant.  Whether you are looking for tasty cuisine, relaxing lounge music, or you want to experience the “ultra hip”, you can find it all here at the Buddha Bar.

Emporio Armani Caffé – distinctive Armani styling highlight this establishment’s interior décor.  The first branch of the Emporio Armani is opening in the Dubai Mall of the Emirates soon and will offer some of the best Italian food that you will find anywhere in the city.

Skyview Bar – this bar is known for its skilled “mixologists” that they currently employ which probably explains its extreme popularity among all locals and many visitors.  Whether you want to relax and enjoy a time-tested favorite cocktail or have them create something that is exclusively yours, it’s not a problem.  The drink menu is one of the most extensive that you will find anywhere.

Al Sarab Rooftop Lounge – no adventure in Dubai’s nightlife is complete without visiting this rooftop establishment that features spectacular panoramas of the extensive Arabian Desert.  This is one of the best places to enjoy a cocktail and relax with your friends while meeting and mingling with the friendly locals.

1897 Bar – you’ll find this bar on the upper-tier of the Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates.  The establishment is bucking the non-smoking venues of the city by providing a smoking section for those who do smoke and don’t want to have to go outside to do so.

Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
