When it comes to dining while visiting the Yucatan Peninsula, the word best does not always refer to most expensive or luxurious. This geographic area is comprised of the states of Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatán. This was the Mayan civilization’s home for hundreds of years until it was conquered by the Spanish in the 1500’s. The famed ruins of the ancient civilization are a crowd puller and thousands of tourists visit these sites. The following is a list of the top dining spots on the Yucatan Peninsula.

Cabaña del Pescador (Cozumel) – known as The Lobster House in English, this is the best location for enjoying a succulent lobster dinner with all the trimmings. However, that is all they serve so if you are hoping to see other items on their menu, it’s not going to happen. As the locals all say “Once you have achieved perfection, there is no need to search for anything else.”
Casa Rolandi (Isla Mujeres) – an exquisite restaurant that serves the Yucatan’s finest cuisine and is attached to the boutique Casa Rolandi hotel. This is an open-air restaurant that serves fresh fish, pastas, and other seafood entrées and sits where you can take in stunning views of the Caribbean.
Gustino (Cancún) – the signature restaurant of the Marriot hotel and a gourmet diner’s paradise. Fresh seafood and steaks as well as homemade pastas that are all prepared using Italian ingredients are the specialties at Gustino. The establishment’s dining room has long been referred to as the most romantic dining venue of Cancún.
La Pigua (Campeche) – the regional specialty in the city of Campeche has always been seafood and for all practical purposes there are no finer dishes of this nature that you are likely to find anywhere in the Yucatan Peninsula. Chiles stuffed with shark, coconut-battered shrimp, and Mexican caviar is just three of the very unique specialties that are served at La Pigua.
Media Luna (Playa del Carmen) – the sidewalk café with an inviting atmosphere that is enough to lure anyone into this establishment. They expertly executed there menu so it is very innovative as a result. Combined with some of the most reasonable prices in the city, it is one of the most ideal dining venues that you will find on the Yucatan Peninsula.
Yaxché (Playa del Carmen) – it has long been stated that there is no Yucatan Peninsula restaurant that has explored the culinary traditions of this region or used entirely local ingredients more than Yaxché. There are a number of pleasant surprises offered every day on the menu here which makes it a welcome relief form the traditional dishes served in many of the restaurants in the region.

Zamas in Tulum. Great food and margaritas. Try the empanadas for lunch, and the pizza or seafood soup for dinner. The setting, as in most settings in the Yucatan is gorgeous. Live music on Wednesday nights, I will see you there in a few weeks!
