Copenhagen is a long-time favorite destination for shoppers from overseas – Swedes frequently make use of the bridge over to their neighboring country to sample the Copenhagener’s signature chic-but-trendy style of dress. Although Strøget (literally means ”the sweep”) is the famous shopping street cutting right through the centre of the capital, this is usually packed with tourists. For some serious, undisturbed shopping, with all the goods Copenhagen has to offer in one place, head for the malls.
Magasin du Nord is the department store with the longest tradition in the whole of Denmark. In the enormous, recently restored building at Kongens Nytorv, you can expect to find almost everything your heart desires. Magasin offers a huge selection of menswear, and the womenswear section takes up three floors. The prices vary, though the best deals are to be had during sales in January and late summer.
Fields is a much newer story, located just a few kilometers from the city center close to the Öresund bridge. This massive, modern shopping mall is the largest in Scandinavia, taking up some 74.000 square meters and offering more than 140 stores and restaurants. Fields has a unique mixture of ambiance, shops and brand names that can’t be found anywhere else in the country, such as Topshop which exclusively resides here. An entire floor is devoted to cafés, restaurants, entertainment and leisure.
Fisketorvet is another modern piece of shopping heaven, built on the waterfront with beautiful views. The odd name means ”the fishing square” and refers to the original use of the premises as the main Copenhagen fish market. The new shopping center is an interesting experience with its beautiful Danish architecture. Fisketorvet shopping center is located only 5 minutes away from the city center by car, but during the summer months you can make a different transportation choice – try the water bus to from Nyhavn. These leave from Nyhavn to the shopping mall every hour from May 21st until 4th of September. Fisketorvet offers 18 cafes and restaurants to choose from, a Cinemaxx cinema and over 120 stores carrying international brands such as Levi´s, Body Shop, Esprit and La Sensa, as well as a variety of Scandinavian brands.

So want to go back to the Scandinavian countries. Once I visit Finland I will have been to all of them: Iceland (2003), Denmark/Sweden/Norway (2006)…sigh…

Nice blog post Eva!
Magasin du Nord has such beautiful clothes, homewares and Christmas ornaments, but unfortunately, it’s a bit expensive…
I really like Fisketorvet and I couldn’t say how many hours I have spent shopping in that mall. It’s a great place to go shopping when the weather is bad and it’s a short “S-Tog” train/bus ride from the city center (get off at Dybbløsbro station). There is also a large shopping center close to Lyngby station, a few km north of Copenhagen and you can reach it by train (“S-Tog” lines B and E).

One of the very best shooping places in Copenhagen id Fisketorvet! Take the S-train from the Central staion toward Dybelsbro, and get off at Dybelsbro
