How to Get from Copenhagen Airport to Copenhagen City Center

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is Denmark’s main international airport. Located in Kastrup, just 8 kilometres from Copenhagen, the airport has good public transport connections to Copenhagen and to other destinations in the region (including Malmö in Sweden over the Øresund bridge). Like in all Scandinavian countries, public transport in Denmark is efficient and modern, and it is easy to get to Copenhagen from the airport by train or by the underground.

train to copenhagen

A free shuttle bus operates between the domestic terminal (terminal 1) and the international terminals 2 and 3. The underground and train stations are both in terminal 3.

By Metro

Underground (metro) trains travel from the airport to Copenhagen city center every 4 to 6 minutes during the day and in the evenings, and at night every 15 to 20 minutes. The journey to the city centre takes around 15 minutes.

The metro station is in Terminal 3. Tickets can be bought from a ticket office in the terminal or inside the station. The ticket machines accept several major credit cards, and they also accept coins – but not notes.

By Train

The airport’s train station is located underneath terminal 3. You can buy train tickets at the ticket office in terminal 3 (right above the station) or from the ticket machines at the station. If you arrive on a domestic flight, a free shuttle bus operates between the domestic terminal and terminal 3. Trains from the airport to the city leave every 10 minutes from platform 2. Trains also depart from the airport train station to other destinations around Denmark.

By Taxi, Rental Car or Bus

Taxis pick up passengers outside the arrival areas in terminal 1 and terminal 3. If you are planning to hire a car in Copenhagen, there are several car rental companies at the airport in the domestic and the international terminals, including Hertz and Avis. Bus number 5A connects the airport to Copenhagen’s Central Station and the city centre.

Be prepared that the driver of the taxi may be holding a monologue about the meaning of life.
