London Concerts during the Olympics

Many individuals will be traveling to London from all over the world to see the Summer Olympic Games that take place from July 27th until August 12th.  Aside from the games themselves and the events taking place in the Olympic Village, there will be a number of other attractions and events taking place in London at that time.  Not to be overlooked are the different concerts that will be taking place.

Olympic Opening Ceremony Concert – the concert takes place on July 27th in Hyde Park.  Some of the top artists include Duran Duran, Paolo Nutini, Snow Patrol and Stereophonics. In addition to the on-site music that will be going on, there will be live screenings of sports competitions as well as world class performances from July 27th through August 12th.

BT London Live – the festival runs from July 27th through the September 9th when the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be taking place.  Hyde Park is one of the three BT London Live festival locations along with Trafalgar Square and Victoria Park. Don’t miss it!

SCIPMYLO Festival – you might notice, Scipmylo is Olympics spelled backwards.  This festival is held in East London at the Hackney Marshes and is FREE of charge.  Although its filled with diverse entertainment and will be a heavy party atmosphere.  The music line-up will include Ali Campbell, the Cuban Brothers, Death in Vegas, the Guillemots, The Straits, and UB40.

BBC Proms 2012 – long considered one of the greatest classical music festivals worldwide, this year’s Proms (Promenade concert) will be held at the Royal Albert Hall of London and is part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.  The entire cycle of Beethoven’s Symphony will culminate on opening day of the Olympic games and end with a performance of the Ninth Symphony by the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim.

Thriller – Live – running up until September 12th, this musical tribute to the late Michael Jackson will be held during the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.  Special effects and spectacular dance routines are part of this entertainment package.  Ironically, the show began running before Jackson’s death occurred back on June 25th, 2009.

Olympic Closing Ceremony ConcertHyde Park on August 12th is the location and date of this concert which will be performed on the last day of the Summer Olympic Games. Featured artists include Blur, New Order and The Specials.  If you’re planning on attending this music event, be prepared for a huge partying crowd as the games end earlier that day.
