Traditional Christmas markets are so enhancing that travelers from all over the world flock to some of the most well known ones. Here is a list of some interesting, quaint, traditional Christmas markets that travelers love as much as the locals:

Striezelmarkt, Dresden, Germany – Striezelmarkt, is one of the world’s oldest Christmas markets. Since its beginning in 1434, the market has been a platform for artisans from all over Germany to come and showcase their works. The air is filled with the smell of baked stollen and you can shop for everything from blown class to food items. The market has changed very little over the years and the highlight is the arrival of 3-ton German fruitcake after it has travelled all over the town’s streets.

Christkindlmarkt, Vienna, Austria – This Christmas market on Rathausplatz, starts earlier than most other markets and is one of the biggest in Europe. The market square is dominated by about 200 stalls, which sell everything from traditional Christmas decorations to delicious Viennese pastries. Travelers will also find Weihnachtspunsch at this market. This spiced punch is quite a rarity. If you’re looking for a small market, you can always head to the Schðnbrunn Palace’s courtyard.

Via San Gregorio Armeno, ItalyNaples holds some of the most interesting Christmas markets in all of Europe. One that interests travelers and locals in particular is held neat Via San Gregorio Armeno. It is known for its various workshops and stalls selling local specialties. Vendors sometimes dress in the traditional shepherd costumes. If you’re in Naples and looking for a true Italian Christmas market experience, head to Via San Gregorio Armeno.
