You do not have to walk far in Vienna to find a Christmas Market. Nostalgic and creative, these exultant celebrations of the Advent season are havens of traditional handicrafts, gorgeous freshly baked pastries, not to mention candyfloss and brightly coloured sugared fruits galore.

Where to find the best Viennese Christmas Markets and when to go.
Christmas Markets are dotted throughout Vienna, and, as it is such as quaint little city, it is easy to wander between the markets, enjoying the unique flavour of each. The main markets can be found at Am Hof, the square next to Karlskirche (a lovely historical church), and at Freyung and Spittelberg. The Christmas Market season in Vienna runs from mid November right up until Christmas (and, for some markets, beyond). Because the markets are so readily accessible from all areas of the city, it will be easy to book a place in one of the great pet-friendly hotels in Vienna that is close to at least one of the main Christmas Markets.
What to buy
Vienna’s Christmas Markets are the perfect place to source some wonderful Christmas presents, or simply to soak up the traditional festive atmosphere. Snack on a cup of crackling hot, freshly roasted chestnuts, or perhaps an indulgent Belgian waffle smothered in cinnamon and cream, as you browse throught the stalls. Old style sweets and hand painted toys are among the highlights of the wares at Vienna’s Christmas Markets. Make sure to try a luxuriously thick hot chocolate too, or a rich and comforting glass of mulled wine, several vats of which can be seen bubbling away merrily at every single one of the main markets. The beautiful wooden market stalls lend an air of old world splendour to the event, and the brightly lit markets look especially inspiring at night time. If you have brought your beloved pet along to stay with you at one of the pet-friendly hotels in Vienna, you could even try and pick up a Christmas present for them too.
Romantic and unforgettable, a trip to Vienna’s Christmas Markets is worth it every year!
