Hi, Interesting post, I think ferries are a great way to travel and you can get some great scenery along the way as well.

I live on La Palma. I'd suggest it's a good balance between relaxing and exploring because it's so varied that it's often called a miniature continent, and you could easily spend two weeks exploring it at a leisurely pace. There's a small active volcano (nothing alarming - just vents with warm air coming out, but it looks like Mars) a semi-tropical rain forest, an international observatory (open days on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, but you have to book) historic town centres, and lots and lots of stunning, varied scenery.

Only two really good beaches and not much night life. Anyone in search of "beach and boogie" would probably prefer Tenerife or Lanzarote.

I'm sorry, but I don't think taking ferries between islands will work that well. Certainly there are plenty of fast ferries between the bigger islands, but not many per day to the smaller ones. And if you have a leisurely breakfast (to suit hubby) and then take a two hour ferry to another island, you don't have a lot of day left before you have to take the ferry back. Or you have to pack your suitcase and change hotels, which your husband will dislike. I think it's either a maximum of two islands per week or a cruise around them all.

Fred Olsen do 13 night cruises around the Canaries from £787.00, and I'm sure plenty of other companies do other cruises. Certainly we see a lot of cruise ships in the harbour at Santa Cruz de la Palma.
