Veggie Restaurants in Campania

Friday, January 6th, 2012

Italy is renowned for a number of architectural, cultural, and historical aspects.  The country is a center for the arts and many consider it the birthplace of the Renaissance.  But there is one thing for certain.  The two key reasons that this country is so popular with domestic and international tourists are the cuisine and shopping.

One of the more popular tourist regions in Italy is the region known as Campania, located along the southwest coastline of the country.  The region includes some famous cities such as Naples and Salerno as well as the spectacular Amalfi Coast.  It is one of the most visited regions in all of Italy and makes for a perfect “base” for venturing out into the region and exploring all that it has to offer.

However, if you follow the Vegan way and only eat Vegetarian, you will not be disappointed as there are several restaurants of this nature located in the region.  Here are a few to consider.

Taverna Santa Maria De Domno (Salerno) – although this restaurant has a separate vegetarian menu, be aware that standard cuisine is served here as well.  The atmosphere holds the appeal for the locals and it most likely works for the tourists as well.  This is an excellent venue for a romantic or special occasion, so keep that in mind.

Old Tavern Sorrentina (Sorrento) – features gluten and wheat-free menus and is rated as one of the best family restaurants in Sorrento.  They do offer a combination menu comprised of seafood and vegetarian while ice cream desserts are available once you have enjoyed your meal.

Umberto (Naples) – rated as one of the most family-friendly vegetarian restaurants in Naples, Umberto is well worth enjoying a meal at if you plan on spending time in Naples while vacationing in Italy.  The cuisine is entirely Italian as it should be and they offer some delicious pastas, pizzas, and sandwiches.  All vegetarian foods are certified as 100% organic as well.

Ristorante Kalimera (Sorrento) – strictly vegetarian versions of all the local cuisine, yet creates “masterpieces” in the process of preparing your meal.  It has been rated as one of the most popular vegetarian restaurants in the entire region of Campania.  If Sorrento is on your Italy vacation agenda, don’t miss this restaurant.

Mondo Bio Café (Sorrento) – another strictly vegetarian restaurant that you want to be sure and visit while you are in Sorrento.  Many international travelers who follow the Vegan Way were extremely thankful for finding this vegetarian venue.  The products are certified as 100% organic as well and for many tourists who must follow a dairy-free diet, that is exactly what they will find when they come to eat any mean here.

I am off to Sorrento this Summer for a romantic break with my partner. We are both vegetarian and have at times struggled with our cuisine needs when visiting other countries. have found this information about the best restaurants to visit to be very useful.
    Thanks Anita.
