How to get from Brussels Airport to Brussels City

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Brussels Airport (BRU) is just 14 km outside the city of Brussels and it is easy to get to the city by train, by bus or by taxi.

The arrivals hall is located on level 2, departures are on level 3 and the promenade on level 4 has shops and cafés. The airport’s bus terminal is on level 0 and the train station one floor below it, on level -1. The information desk in the arrivals hall is open every day of the week from 6 am to 9 pm. If you’re planning to rent a car in Brussels, the airport’s car rental companies can also be found in the arrivals hall.

To the City by Train

The airport’s train station can be found in the basement or level -1 (one floor below the bus station). As many as four trains an hour leave towards Brussels North, Brussels Midi and Brussels Central stations. There are also train services directly from the airport to many other destinations in Belgium.

Brussels Airport Bus Services

The bus station is located one floor below the arrivals hall, on level 0. Several companies offer transport to the city.

The De Lijn bus company operates an express bus to Brussels North railway station (line 471). Line 659 goes to the Roodebeek underground station in Brussels. The same company operates several other buses to different destinations in the city and around Brussels. De Lijn buses leave from platforms A and B.

The MIVB/STIB transport company runs the Airport Line, a bus between the airport and the European quarter in Brussels city. The trip on the Airport Line takes around half an hour. On weekdays (Monday to Friday) the Airport Line is bus number 12 and on weekends or holidays the bus number is 21. Airport Line buses leave from platform C and tickets can be bought from the driver or from the ticket machine on the platform (machine-bought tickets are cheaper).

To the City by Taxi

Metered taxis wait for passengers outside the arrivals hall. Licensed taxis have a blue and yellow emblem. A typical fare on a licensed, metered taxi from the airport to Brussels city centre is around €45.

Many hotels around the airport offer a shuttle bus service to their guests. Hotel shuttles leave from the coach station on level 0 (from platform E) but check the schedule with your hotel.
