A holiday for nature lovers could take you anywhere in the world. But, a nature lover’s holiday in France would be something very special indeed. Located in the northwestern region of France, Brittany is a magical place with many very usual and unusual sights to see.

The Gulf Stream along Brittany is said to be one of the reasons why Brittany is so special. Due to the warmth from Gulf Stream many exotic plants are able to thrive that otherwise would not. A perfect place for nature lovers to start is at the gardens and parks of Brittany. From garden displays featuring English-style gardens to medieval or tropical you will be amazing at how much beauty exists in any one garden as no garden is ever alike.
Once you enter into the gardens of Brittany you will feel as if you have been transported into an entirely different world. Keep pristine and immaculate these gardens will not fail to delight whether you are born with a green thumb or amateur gardener at heart. Most gardens are set against the rugged Breton coast backdrop which brings even more treats for the nature lover to take in. Just some of the nature delights you will find in a garden in Brittany are maples, dogwood and golden cypress trees. There are as many as fifty different types of magnolias for your eye palette to behold.

Garden of Kerdalo
One particular gardens of Brittany as it is known to day are a labor of love for a family called Wolkonsky. This particularly special garden is called Kerdalo and is hidden away upon a hillside. The nearest town to this garden is Tréguier, Northwest of Saint-Brieuc, the historic capital of Trégor province in the Côtes d’Armor. Entering this nature lover’s garden will be like entering in a world of its own with more than 9,000 plants situate in 25 acres of well manicured landscaped grounds. Russian painter-gardener named Prince Peter Wolkonsky first took to landscaping the region with bulldozers in 1965. After his death in 1997, his daughter Isabella and her husband have carried on the decade’s old tradition to become caretaker of this hidden world of nature and beauty. These gardens have survived everything from two storms in 1987 which destroyed several trees to the heat wave of 2003 which left devastation to many trees and foliage alike.
