Historically, Beijing is most renowned for its role in the growth of China’s imperialism. So when people consider a trip to Beijing, they imagine a city full of palaces and temples fit for emperors and Chinese royalty. While those ancient structures are still standing, they are now sandwiched in amongst the freeways and skyscrapers that make Beijing one of China’s most modern yet culture-filled cities.
If you love the nightlife and the entertainment that it brings, then you want to put these five different venues on your agenda while you’re visiting this beautiful city. Here is a list of the top 5 Pubs and Discos in Beijing:
1. Hard Rock Café Beijing
No matter where you travel nationally or internationally, the Hard Rock Café is always worth a visit, and the one in Beijing is no exception. Both the locals and the expatriates alike frequent the Hard Rock Café because of both the entertainment and the Western cuisine.
2. Durty Nellies
Deep in the Beijing business district is the underground bar called Durty Nellies. Despite its predominantly Irish theme, Durty Nellies has all the features of a great little “dive.” Cover bands, great food, and Guinness on tap are making this stop well worth while when you’re in Beijing.
3. New Bar Street
Located northwest of the Forbidden City along the edges of Beihai Park, is New Bar Street. Frequented mostly by hip locals, New Bar Street is definitely geared towards a younger crowd. If you want something more your age or style, Old Bar Street is targeted more towards the tourist crowd.
4. Get Lucky Bar (Haoyun Jiuba)
If live shows and dancing are what you’re looking for the Get Lucky Bar is the place for you. The live entertainment menu happens three nights per week (Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday) and they feature their own in-house micro-brewed beer. This underground rock venue with its amazing decoration will definitely impress you.
5. Lounge and Bar Loco
Bar Loco is one of the newer entertainment venues in Beijing and is a hip lounge and nightclub located in the Wudaokou area. Here you can enjoy a variety of Asian and Western cuisine, drink anything from cappuccinos to Jack Daniels or Absinth to Guinness, or you can just relax and enjoy the nightlife.
Beijing played host to the 2008 summer Olympics which created more congestion than what the second most populated Chinese city commonly experiences. Be prepared for crowds no matter where you visit when you’re in this historical city.
