Many individuals who visit Spain’s second largest city and Catalonian capital of Barcelona are unaware of what a diverse culture that exists here. It is a very large city with the cultural heritage and history backing it up evidenced by the architecture and art on display throughout the city. Unbeknownst to many international travelers is the fact that the city also has a very large and prevalent GLBT (Gay Lesbian Bi-Sexual Transgender) community as well.

One of the most prolific events of this community is the Gay and Lesbian Festival which is actually referred to as the Circuit Festival that takes place annually in the month of August. This year’s event starts from the 2nd of August through 12th of August and fills the streets of Barcelona’s gay community with event music, parties, and pre-parties. Additionally, there are art displays along with leisure and sport activities to satisfy just about every preference and taste when attending the festival.
Barcelona’s Gay and Lesbian Festival or Circuit Festival is Europe’s largest GLBT event of the year and attracts over 50,000 attendees from all over Europe every year. This is one of the newer international GLBT events and has grown exponentially in popularity since the very first year. It is promoted by the Matinée Group Barcelona and heavily supported by Barcelona’s GLBT community. The festival features a wide diversity of events for everyone and is scattered throughout this section of the city.
The city of Barcelona also hosts the major GLBT event known as the Pride Barcelona Festival in the month of June every year. So there are two major events geared to the gay and lesbian community within 60 days of one another. Obviously, there is much to celebrate during each event. With 13 parties for men and women, 50,000 international and local visitors, a Circuit Beach, a special Waterpark Day, and top DJ’s from all over the world, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy plenty of fun in the sun.
During both events, the Pride Barcelona Festival in June and the Circuit Festival in August, the city and its accommodations are guaranteed to fill up quickly.
