Situated near eastern Spain’s Iberian coastline is the western Mediterranean archipelago known as the Balearic Islands. The four favorite destinations of the island group are Ibiza, Formentera, Majorca, and Menorca. Aside from the diverse cuisine, culture, history, and landscape of the islands, it is the climate and the beaches that attract international visitors as well as those from Spain. Here are our choices for the top 5 unspoiled beaches in the Balearic Islands.

Majorca Beaches – located just outside of the city of Palma. There are some great beaches which include the beach of Camp de Mar and the beach at Sant Elm. Camp de Mar is a frequently populated beach while Sant Elm is more charming and cozy because Dragonera Island tends to shelter it from inclement climate. Since Majorca is the most popular of the islands, you will find numerous beach front hotels and resorts geared to every age group and taste.
Menorca Beaches – as far as hidden coves, peace and quiet, and pristine white sandy beaches, you just can’t beat the beaches on the island of Menorca. The best beaches such as Cala Binibeca and Els Canutells are located along the southern coastline although other beaches are being developed on the western shoreline of the island. Beaches that are broken or interrupted by colorful cliffs are the norm on this island.
Ibiza Beaches – the more private and secluded beaches are located along the northern coastline of Ibiza Island, if you are looking for peace and quiet while vacationing on the island. You will find a variety of beaches here including those that cater to nudists as well as aficionados of water sports. To the south is Salines Beach and is well worth a day’s outing while visiting this Balearic Island.
If you want to enjoy a private beach, try one near Cala Conta or the beaches near Cala d’Hort. Magnificent summer sunsets as well as some spectacular panoramas of Es Vedra rock await you at this lesser populated island of the group. Beware – many of the beaches on the island cater to nudists and this is not the best family venue of the archipelago.
Formentera Beaches – the beaches of this island are considered paradises by many visitors. Although these beaches have their own distinct characteristics, they all feature waters that are turquoise in color and literally unspoiled by business and residential development projects. Closest to the arrival port of La Savina is the popular Platja de ses Illetes beach which sees the highest visitor traffic on the island.
