Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Bargaining and budgeting helps you save and maybe get you to squeeze in an extra destination while you are traveling. Everyone likes to get the most out of their money as more money saved means, another city covered or maybe a few more shopping trips! And who knows that better than the backpack traveler?

So, are you already thinking about your next quick weekend trip or a student planning an overseas summer trip?

Just pack a few clothes, search the net for the best deals and you are ready to go but read some very practical and money saving tips to help you squeeze in more travel within the same budget:

  • Travel by bus after your initial flight (if you are traveling internationally), take stock of the cheapest mode of transportation in the city and use that to explore the country. You will see the real countryside and mix with the locals to know the culture of the region you are in when you travel by a bus or coach.
  • Take a night train when you are going around the country. Not only will you save time by traveling at night, you also save a huge sum by avoiding the expense of hiring a hotel room!
  • Try traveling on weekdays as weekends tend to be busier and all tours charge higher, during holidays and weekends.
  • Planning your travel in advance will help you save a huge amount as you can plan it during the off season months, when you get avail a discount on everything right from the airline fare to the hotel stay.
  • If you are traveling in a group, ask for a group discount from your travel agent or even the local tour operator. If you plan to use the local transports available in the city, check the rent charges with the locals before hiring as charging foreigners high amounts is common.

That will give you sweet memories with a lot of money still left in your pocket when you return home!

These are nice tips! Certainly very useful, especially nowadays. If you want I can also offer some tips! As an avid traveler myself, I have always been trying to discover the best way to save money so that I can really maximize my budget for exploring a country.

What really can take away your budget is accommodation. So stay away from hotels. Its better to go local and go for a hostel. These might be lacking in some services but then, you’d be out anyway exploring.

Also, if you are traveling in a group, try renting an apartment. Even a studio flat is enough for several people if you are willing to share, and all of you can split the bill.
