For many international travelers, there are probably two key reasons for visiting France – namely the cuisine and the wines.

The country is well known for having some exquisite restaurants steeped in cultural culinary traditions as well as producing some of the best wines in the entire world. French wine bars are plentiful and are extremely popular tourist destinations when visiting the country. The city of Beaune located in the Burgundy region is no exception to this rule.

It is a charming city that has been a targeted destination for art lovers, gastronomes, and connoisseurs of fine wines as well as a city frequented by the rich and famous. For the average European tourist, Beaune is a half-day stop at best, but for those who want a taste of true French wine culture, it is a must-visit destination. Situated along the Côte-d’Or, this city is a wine lover’s paradise to say the least, with numerous wine bars and establishments that cater to the “vino aficionado.”

Despite the fact that the majority of the red wines are pinot noirs and the whites are primarily Chardonnay’s, the varieties are too numerous to mention in a short piece of content such as this one. Here are a few wine bars to visit while you are vacationing in Beaune and the surrounding area:

Via Mokis

Situated on the rue Eugène Spüler, this wine bar is part of a hotel, restaurant, and spa that is located in Beaune. You have a chance to experience some excellent vins de pays (wines of the country) as well as some very tasty Burgundy’s.

Marché aux Vins

Located in the heart of Beaune across the street from the Hôtel Dieu, this is oftentimes described as the best place to taste all 18 wines of the Burgundy region for only €10. The wine tasting is actually conducted in what used to be an old stone pillar church. Or, you can just sit in the bar and relax with a glass or two of your particular favorite.

Although these were the only two wines bars of note that we have listed for Beaune, there are several other cities in the Burgundy Region that feature wine bars and wine tasting. The nearby city of Dijon also features a couple of nice Restaurant/Wine Bar combinations.

Café Gourmand

A casual setting open for brunch and lunch, featuring a reasonably nice selection of wines. Be aware that this establish caters more to the younger student crowd.

L’Assommoir Café

Located on the Rue Monge, this café is primarily a salad and sandwich shop that is a favorite of the locals. They do love their American tourists though and will make them feel right at home when sampling some of the wines of the region.

There are literally hundreds of cities in the US alone that have become popular favorites where the family vacation is concerned. One of the first cities that come to mind is Orlando, Florida.

Orlando has become one of the most desirable family holiday destinations in the United States and possibly worldwide. The climate is always perfect so a beach-oriented family vacation is always recommended no matter if you are on the Atlantic side or the Gulf side of the state.

The following is a list of the 6 most popular family destinations when vacationing in the Sunshine State that you will definitely want to include in your vacation itinerary:

1. Discovery Cove

A reservation-only format that provides the entire family with the most exciting encounters with animals that you will ever experience in your life. You can look a barracuda or a shark in the eye, play with stingrays, and of course, swim with the dolphins.

2. Orlando Science Center

Originally established and incorporated as the Central Florida Museum in 1955 and then featured at the opening of Loch Haven Park of Orlando in 1960, it is now known as the Orlando Science Center and is a 207,000 sq. ft., multi-level facility that is a sure fire hit with families. It features the Cinema Dome, continually changing exhibits, and a planetarium.

3. SeaWorld of Orlando

Of all the amusement parks in the world, SeaWorld of Orlando has perfected the ideal recipe for family vacation fun. It is one of the best combinations of animal interactions, fantastic entertainment, and thrilling amusement rides that you will find anywhere in the US.

4. Universal Orlando

Comprised of 2 family fun parks, Universal Orlando features the phenomenal Islands of Adventure and the renowned Orlando Studios. Once considered to be a one-day vacation adventure, Universal Orlando has attained new family vacation destination status. Additionally, make sure you take in the CityWalk entertainment complex while you are there as well. The 3 luxury hotels that are in close proximity to the park make the entire scenario a multi-day vacation at the very least.

5. Walt Disney’s Animal Kingdom

No matter which of Disney’s theme parks you take in on vacation, Animal Kingdom is a must-see on any vacation itinerary. The one in Walt Disney World in Orlando is no exception. In any event, you and your family will quickly discover that this is neither your typical theme park attraction nor your typical zoo. It is a family attraction that beckons all and should not be missed.

6. Walt Disney World

You know the old cliché about “saving the best for last?” We just did. Welcome to Walt Disney World, one of the premier theme parks in the entire world and a highly targeted family vacation destination. Whether it’s the exhibits, the food, the rides, or just the themed atmosphere, it just doesn’t get any better than this.

One of the aspects that came out of the modernization of Budapest after their release from Soviet control was the rise in popularity of pubs in the city.

Pubs are very popular today and that is a direct result from a lot of “expats” living in Budapest. On the other hand, it has also resulted from the low cost airlines that bring a multitude of those weekenders touring the city.

Belgium beer, German beer, and “pints” of the more traditional British ales and beers can be found in most of the current establishments. Additionally, the food found in these pubs is nothing shy of excellent and you are able to eat exceptionally well considering that their menus offer hamburgers, rustic snacks, and steaks to the delight of most traveling palates.

At nightfall, nearly Pub metamorphoses into a club (disco-esque), complete with dancing and excellent local music. Naturally, there is a wide array of choices when it comes to flirting with the opposite gender. Here is a list of the more frequented and popular pubs in Budapest:

#1 – Caledonia Pub and Sportsbar

Authentic Scottish Pub that offers the best beers from home for the visiting Scotsman. Caledonia’s ambiance is exceptional as appears like a Scottish situated in the midst of downtown Budapest. In addition to those tasty Scottish beers, foods as well as souvenirs from home can be had as well.

#2 – Irish Cat Pub

A favorite place of Budapest expats to hang out and mingle, this establishment is located at Kalvin ter in the heart of Budapest. Easter and Halloween are just two of the events during the year where the club hosts special parties and features the best in local live music.

#3 – Fat Mo’s

Located in the heart of Budapest’s most “touristy” section next to Vaci utca, this well-known place is frequented by expats and tourists on a regular basis. Live music every evening and excellent dining is the main fare at Fat Mo’s.

#4 – Becketts Pub and Sportsbar

Well known for featuring live Budapest football (soccer), especially the English Premier League, and like so many other pubs in the city, offers beer in pints, great food, and an English pub-like atmosphere.

#5 – Old Man’s Music Pub

One of the most favorite hang-outs for Budapest expats. full of expats. You would never be able to guess how large the place is based on the tiny entrance that you pass through.

#6 – Jam Pub

Located in the cellar of the popular Mammut Shopping Center, the entrance is located between the two Mammut buildings. Men normally pay a small cover fee while the girls get in free of charge.

Whether it’s the nightlife and pub scene that you crave, or savoring Greek and Sicilian cuisine at one of the local restaurants, Agrigento has it all.

If you are on the look out of chilling out and relaxing after a day of sightseeing, here is a list of some of the best pubs and restaurants in Agrigento:

Atenea Street and Viale della Vittoria

Situated in the nearby city of San Leone 2km from the center of Agrigento, this is where you will find the majority of the bars and pubs geared to the younger age groups although it is frequented by tourists in most age groups. The Oceanomare is probably the nicest pub and restaurant in the area although the Ficus Bar and Le Dynamique are excellent choices as well.

You will find if you visit either of these two pub and restaurant lined streets that the ones situated on Atenea Street are more casual, whereas the pubs and restaurants located on the Viale della Vittoria are more fashionable and upper class. So make sure you’re dressed accordingly depending on which area you’re going to visit. Keep in mind that the majority of the locals have the tendency to dress up a bit in the evenings.

Agrigento’s Restaurant Scene

Agrigento is widely known for its wide array of Greek and Sicilian cuisine and we have listed what we feel are the top restaurants in the Agrigento area:

Spizzulio – Italian and Mediterranean delicatessen

QOC – a must for dining with some outstanding Italian faire

Baglio Sicilia Antica – the best in Sicilian cuisine

Ruga Reali – Greek and Italian cuisine, mostly seafood entrees

Expanificio – fine Italian cuisine geared to the budget conscious traveler

Pizzeria Jack – kid-friendly pizzeria that serves other Italian dishes as well

La Borghesiana – one of the better Italian and Mediterranean restaurants for pasta and pizza

Perbacco Ristorante Vineria – one of the top Italian menus in Agrigento

Trattoria dei Templi – again another top choice for Italian cuisine but a bit pricey

Leon d’Oro – probably the priciest restaurant in Agrigento ($50 to $60 per person), but the menu is an amazing mixture of Italian, Mediterranean, and Sicilian cuisine

If you’re more into Mediterranean cuisine with a little Greek thrown in for good measure, we recommend you try the Akropolis Restaurant. It can get a bit expensive though as plates average any where from $40 to $60 per plate. One way or the other, this one is worth it.

No trip to Spain should ever overlook spending time in Bilbao, especially if you are taking a family vacation to this culturally prolific country.

It is situated in Basque Country and is Vizcaya’s capital city in a picturesque landscape on the banks of a tidal river known as the Nervión. Climate is by far the major allure of this city, but it is also a great European family vacation destination. The following is a list of all the must-see Kid-Friendly attractions to consider while visiting Bilbao:

1. La Ría Maritime Museum

With its indoor and outdoor exhibits, three separate docks, and a path that takes you completely around the estuary and these exhibits, you can’t go wrong. You and the wife as well as your children are bound to enjoy the morning, afternoon, or even a whole day exploring what this attraction has to offer.

2. Basque Museum

Despite the fact that this museum closes on Mondays as well as being open only 6 hours a day Tuesday through Saturday (11am to 5pm) and only 3 hours every Sunday (11am to 2pm), it is cheap entertainment. Entry fees range between €1.50 and €3, while children under the age of 10 and Seniors pay nothing. The museum was originally opened in 1921 and focuses on archaeology, ethnography, and prehistory of the Basque homeland called Euskadi.

3. Antzokia Restaurant

A bit pricey at roughly €11.5 for two entrees and your dessert, but nonetheless a definite dining affair you want to experience while you are visiting Bilbao with your children. The non-restaurant atmosphere of being located within a theater hall complete with its stage is what makes this restaurant a priority on your vacation itinerary. Despite the price, it is an excellent value for the money and features a very friendly staff as well as extremely prompt service.

4. Cafe Nervión

This is another must-experience restaurant which is situated along the Nervión River and will provide you with a spectacular panorama of the landscape and the river environment in general. It may or may not be the best place for a family meal and outing, but it definitely worth considering if you want to impress that special someone.

5. Aste Nagusia / Semana Grande

This is the city’s main annual festival and takes place in August and begins on the first Saturday following the 15th and lasts for 9 days, plenty of time to take in the festivities if you are in town for a brief period of time. There are a lot of related events, plenty of music and street theater, and most of all, a lot of noise to accompany all of the festivities. There is definitely something here for everyone regardless of age group.

Located in the Lake Garda region, Desenzano del Garda is one of many small towns situated around this pristine mountain lake located in the northern portion of Italy.

Regardless of which one of these towns you spend time in, the nightlife at the bars and pubs in and around Desenzano del Garda will keep you hopping until the wee hours of the morning. The following is a list of what we feel is the best bars in the Desenzano del Garda area and surrounding towns.

The Barracuda

Oftentimes rated as a must-see pub in Lake Garda so it is always busy in there once the sun sets. It is a very popular spot with locals and tourists alike. A fun-filled environment with excellent décor, The Barracuda needs to be the #1 priority for a great evening out while visiting the Lake Garda area, especially if you can hang with the locals into the early hours of morning.

The Piano Bar

Situated within the confines of the Grand Hotel, this Lake Garda piano style bar rates on the list of must-see nightspots. The hotel features a pool bar at its private beachfront that is open most hours of the day and into the late evening. So it’s a great jaunt for a late night out. There is also a terrace for dining and drinking complete with a live pianist to set the mood.

Art Club Disco

If you’re looking for a bar or a pub, that features dancing, dining, and drinking this is the best of all three worlds. It serves up some of the most tantalizing dishes anywhere in Lake Garda, features a great bar menu, and the dancing venue is probably the most popular in the lake area. But be aware that this is a venue that caters to a younger crowd so at times it gets a bit boisterous and loud in there.

Hollywood Discotheque

Patterned after bars and pubs that you would see around Hollywood and Vine or Sunset Blvd., this disco rocks American style. It is considered to be the happening place for locals from the younger generation to the middle aged crowd and the tourists are always welcome and treated very well. Patterned after a Hollywood villa that looks like it was a 1950’s throwback, Hollywood Discotheque is considered the most happening place at the Lake.

Café Filippini

A great dining and drinking experience to consider when you’re at the lake. One of the best features about this café is that it is open from 8am until 2am Thursdays through Tuesdays. Wednesdays are the only days that they close so you’d have to make another choice to cover that night of the week.

Perched on a hilltop in central Italy’s Umbrian region, is the small town of Assisi and its 25,000 (give or take) residents.

The city dates back to Medieval times so it is steeped in both culture and history. It is most noted as being St. Francis of Assisi’s birthplace a man who holds a great deal of artistic, historical, and religious significance. It is situated roughly 90 miles to the north of Rome and for all practical purposes is a must-see city on any Italian vacation itinerary.

This is especially the case if you are searching for Vegan and Vegetarian cuisine in Assisi and the surrounding cities. We have listed a 5 of those particular restaurants which you should experience and ones that we feel are “can’t-miss” dining experiences while you are there on holiday or for an extended vacation. They are as follows:

1. Ai Cavalieri – Petrignano

Located on Via Matteotti, this restaurant is one that you will absolutely fall in love with due to its location in the valley area of Petrignano just south of Assisi. The faire here is nothing short of excellent and is quite possibly at the top of our list.

2. Ristorante San Francesco – Assisi

Situated on the Via Francesco, the menu is filled with a myriad of excellent choices. Just be aware that it carries a price tag equivalent to the restaurant’s ambience and atmosphere. Their Vegetarian Lasagna made with farro pasta are what most would say is “to die for”, but it will cost you.

3. Alter Ego – Perugia

Located in Perugia, this restaurant has some of the best lunch and dinner faire in this quaint city and is a huge favorite of locals. So be prepared for a crowd and a long wait at dinnertime. But don’t let that discourage you from sampling their cuisine. Situated in a dark alley with a dark entrance, this establishment is very hip by younger Italian standards based on the very young pair of brothers who own the restaurant.

4. Osteria del Gufo – Perugia

Located on the Via della Viola in Perugia, this restaurant features the finest in Vegetarian Bohemian cuisine despite its “hole-in-the-wall” appearance. It will mind you of dining along the Rive Gauche (Left Bank) in Paris and has a fabulous chocolate mousse. However, the dining quarters are very cramped and the restaurant seats only 50 people at most, so dining elbow-to-elbow is commonplace.

5. Piazzetta delle Erbe – Assisi

Those this charming and small trattoria situated on Via S. Gabrielle dell’Addolorata in Assisi provides you with a great atmosphere, its simplicity is what makes the establishment so special. Just beware that the menu is not entirely Vegan or Vegetarian and does feature meat entrees.

No trip to the small medieval town of Assisi is complete without seeing the many churches, large and small, located in this city of 25,000 residents.

The town is situated upon a hill in the Umbria region right in the heart of Italy. It is most known for being St. Francis’ birthplace, a man renowned for his artistic, historical, and religious significance. The city is quite small so exploring on foot is not challenging. There are walking tours and self-guided tours available.

Despite the fact that all the churches and sanctuaries in Assisi are open for tourist visitation, there are certain exceptions and rules that need to be followed. Hours for visiting will vary from one to the next, but all of them forbid tourist visits during Sunday morning mass or services. Additionally, some of these have rather strict dress codes so it is wise to check in advance so that you are not denied admission.

Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi

Franciscan monastery named after St. Francis and is also a World Heritage Site. It is also the church where St. Francis was canonized in 1228. There is a lower and an upper church with artwork on display in both. The lower church features artwork by two renowned Medieval artists, Cimabue and Giotto, while the upper church features frescos reflecting the life of St. Francis. In September of 1997, the Basilica was severely damaged by an earthquake and was closed two years while it was undergoing restoration activities.

Basilica of Santa Chiara

Named after Saint Clare, the structure features massive lateral buttresses, the famous “Rose Window”, and has a simple Gothic interior. St. Clare’s tomb is located here as well as some 13th century frescoes and assorted paintings.

Cathedral of San Rufino

Also known as the Assisi Cathedral, it was named after Saint Rufinus of Assisi. Part of this structure was originally constructed on what was once a Roman cistern. It features a 16th century interior, a Romanesque façade, and three rose windows.

Eremo delle Carceri

Situated in a canyon above the town of Assisi, this small monastery was a favorite retreat of St. Francis. Supposedly, he would preach to the birds that nested there as he was resting in the garden.

Santo Stefano (Assisi)

One of the oldest churches built in Assisi. It has no ornate designing but simple stonemasons who built a rustic memento of their faith. This beautiful 12th century Romanesque church is surrounded by fig, walnut and cypress trees which were considered to be outside the town walls in olden days. According to legends, the bells of this church started ringing miraculously the day St. Francis died, on 3rd October 1226.

Santa Maria Maggiore

The church was named after St. Mary the Greater and is the oldest church still in existence in the city.

There are several other smaller churches and monasteries in the surrounding area worth seeing as well. However, the ones listed above should be included in anyone’s vacation itinerary.

One of the oldest cities in the Netherlands and widely known for its churches, is Utrecht.

Take time to venture along Wittevrouwensingel – the city’s main street – or the Oudegracht (a.k.a. the old canal). Church bells are certain to be tolling, depending on the time of day that you venture down these well-walked streets. There is a lot that can be said about the other major cities in the country – Amsterdam, The Hague, and Rotterdam – but Utrecht is a must-visit destination while in the Netherlands.

The restaurant venue will astound you with both local and international cuisine featured on numerous menus in the city. Utrecht offers a wide array options for dining out so you can grab a burger, eat falafel or dine on shawarma if you feel like it. With the assortment of venues in the city, there is something for every palate. The following is a list of the more commonly recommended restaurants in Utrecht.

Oudaen

One of the classier restaurants in Utrecht where ambiance and charm is concerned. The restaurant is actually situated within a 13th century castle. The bar and dining room is the location of where the knights of the castle used to commune after a long day of doing battle and protecting the kingdom. The restaurant is a bit pricey compared to others, but the cuisine is sure to please.

Havana

Cuban atmosphere to go with the same cuisine. The establishment is more casual and relaxing than some of the other restaurants in the area. The serving staff is extremely friendly and bends over backwards especially for UK and US visitors. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, the tables are removed at 11:00 for dancing purposes and live entertainment.

Mi Madre

One of the first things you (or more likely your nose) will notice is that the air in this restaurant is inundated with the aroma of garlic, a typical addition to most Spanish entrees. It can get a little strong, so if garlic is not for you, then you would be wise to find another dining establishment. If, however, this is not an issue, and you are craving true Spanish cuisine at its finest anywhere outside of Spain, this restaurant is a must-visit destination while in Utrecht.

Mikonos

A fine Greek restaurant with a very full menu of choices to indulge in. The mixed grill faire with a dinner salad and some Ouzo comes highly recommended when dining here. Additionally, the restaurant has one of the most efficient and friendliest serving staffs anywhere in the city.

De Bakkerswinkel Café

This is one of the best stops for breakfast and lunch in Utrecht and is located right off Dam Square. Despite having a longer wait than usual at other area cafes, the wait here is well worth it.

Thailand is one of the gems of Asia and a family vacation there must involve visiting the city of Bangkok.

The city is Thailand’s largest city and has an abundance of family oriented attractions which will positively tantalize the senses. Depending on whether you base your vacation in adventure or history, there is something to satisfy every family no matter where you are exploring in the city. From its historical Buddhist temples to its ultra modern shopping malls, there are enough things to do in Bangkok that can easily fill up your vacation itinerary.

We’ve listed the following must-see attractions as the best family things to do in Bangkok while visiting the city:

Siam Ocean World

Located in the Paragon Shopping Mall, this is one of Bangkok’s newest attractions. With over 30,000 marine animals, Siam Ocean World is the largest aquarium in Asia. You’ll be able to experience what life is like under the ocean right in the center of this bustling city.

Bangkok Floating Market

Its actual name is the Damnoen Saduak floating market and is only accessible by one of the long-tailed, narrow motorized boats which convey locals and tourists through the Bangkok canals. This is definitely one of the best ways to see what everyday life is like in the city as well as being the preferred form of transportation and sightseeing in Bangkok.

Bridge Over the River Kwai

A poignant reminder of POW life during the Second World War and the basis of the renowned film. It was also referred to as the Death Railway when it was actually in operation and was used as a supply route for the Asian Axis forces during World War II. You’ll definitely be traveling back into history when you visit this sight.

Safari World

One of the world’s largest open zoos which provides entertainment and fun for the whole family. Drive through Safari Park and witness a variety of African-like wilderness environments. You can also see numerous dolphins and seals as you walk through Marine Park. No doubt parents will love this attraction as much as their children.

Samphran Elephant Show and Crocodile Farm

Despite being located 20 miles (32 km) from Bangkok, this attraction is a must-see for any vacation agenda. The elephant is Thailand’s most revered creature and this attraction is definitely proof of that. You can even take a half hour elephant ride if you choose to do so.

Red Cross Snake Farm

As an added bonus, one more attraction that you might be interested in is the Red Cross Snake Farm, depending on your tolerance for slithery animals. This is also the world’s 2nd largest facility that features snakes as the main attraction. You might want to consider this as an alternative spot to visit while in Bangkok.

Family-friendly Hotels in Thailand:

The beautiful capital city of Vietnam, Hanoi was formerly the capital of North Vietnam, prior to the re-unification of the country, once the Vietnam War had ended.

Hanoi is a cauldron of exotic ancient monuments, modern skyscrapers and remnants of the colonial imperialism.

Being situated along the banks of the Red River affords the city of a cooler climate than what is often found in the southern regions of this country.

Hanoi offers the visitor a wealth of historical attractions and tourist sights considering how the city has become so modernized since the end of the Vietnam War and the re-unification of the country. From big, bustling metropolitan areas to the lush green countryside that the nation is known for, there is a multitude of things to see and do. From shopping a the local night markets to seeing the artists at work

However, we feel that the following 5 are the top ones and should be considered as “Must See” attractions and sights on your travel itinerary.

1. The Hanoi Hilton

Don’t let the name deceive you. This isn’t a hotel. This was a name given for ironic reasons to the original Hoa Lo Prison that housed many American prisoners during the Vietnam War. The list of prisoners included John McCain, the 2008 Republican candidate for US President, who spent a portion of his 5½ year imprisonment at this facility.

2. Hoan Kiem Lake

Referred to as the “Lake of the Restored Sword”, it is the center of many events for locals and is situated in the center of the city. It is an easy walk around the entire body of water and offers the tourist an abundance of excellent photographic opportunities including the view from the overlook of the Jade Mountain Temple.

3. One Pillar Pagoda

Regarded as one of the country’s most iconic attractions, this historic Buddhist temple is a small structure constructed out of timber and perched upon a single pillar of stone. Emperor Lý Thái Tông originally commissioned the structure in 1049.

4. The Presidential Palace

Designed in a uniquely Italian renaissance style, this was the former dwelling place of the French Governor General. The former Vietnamese leader, Ho Chi Minh also resided here at one time.

5. The Temple of Literature

Now used as a Confucian temple, the building was originally constructed in 1070 and was formerly the site of one of the oldest universities in Vietnam. Although Confucian temples are numerous throughout the country, this is the most famous of all and is targeted destination for many who visit Vietnam. Historically, it is considered to be one of the country’s finest sites and tourist attractions.

Located close to the northern coast of Africa, the Canary Islands are an archipelago comprised of seven different islands and a variety of popular tourist destinations.

Suffice it to say, the flavor of the islands is nothing short of exotic, and the landscape is dotted by hundreds of volcanoes, rich forests, rugged cliffs, and sand dunes. The weather frequently varies from one island to the next, so while you are experiencing sunny tropical weather on one, you could be enjoying either rainfall or snowfall on one of the other islands.

The islands offer a wealth of sightseeing experiences for the visitor. You can catch a ferry to Lanzarote, ride a camel through Timanfaya National Park and see the volcano, visit Mount Teide (Spain’s tallest peak) on Tenerife, romp on any of the many pristine beaches, or hike through La Gomera’s Garajonay National Park. Additionally, you will find more adventures on the peaceful island of Fuerteventura, the tiny island of El Hierro, or the lush verdant island of La Palma. And these are just for starters.

No matter which one of the 7 islands you visit, you will find a wealth of experiences at your fingertips, despite the fact that a lot of the tourism is focused on the two capital cities of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. If you’ve grown tired of the same types of vacations or vacation spots, then the Canary Islands are a must-visit destination. The following is a list of the top 5 sightseeing targets to consider if you make the trip:

1. Plaza Charco in Puerto de la Cruz

If you’re looking for a street that is lined with cafes and restaurants, this plaza is the place. A wide variety of cuisines, both local and international await you, as well as the many shopping opportunities that it holds.

2. Calle Triana in Las Palmas

Known for its more upscale shopping, if you’re hoping to find a wide pedestrianized street lined with shops, as well as a bus station at each end, Calle Triana is a must-see experience.

3. Veronica’s Strip in Playa de las Americas

This is the nightlife spot of the Canary Islands. The Strip is lined with bars, discos, and relaxing pubs so no personal tastes in this type of entertainment are overlooked.

4. Los Gigantes in Tenerife

For a great setting to enjoy a drink or a meal, the marina in Los Gigantes is perfect. Watching the boats coming and going, can be very soothing but just be advised that during the peak periods, that peaceful relaxing setting turns into a hub of activity that often gets noisy as well.

5. Rambla del General Franco in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

One of the most historical streets anywhere in the Canary Islands, this venue is the perfect setting for a walking tour of the island.

The ideal combination of culture, history, and the ocean can be found on the island of Sardinia, the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.

The landscape is dotted with thousands of stone structures, proving how steeped in history the country is. Whether you visit the capital city of Cagliari, explore the Spanish-gothic town of Alghero (founded in medieval times), or you schmooze with the wealthier tourists up in Costa Smerelda. The beaches are some of the most pristine you will find anywhere in Europe and the towns are nothing short of picturesque.

From a traveling standpoint, Sardinia is one of the true ideal destinations that takes you away from it all and has a little something for even the pickiest of tastes. The numerous attractions, entertainment, events, and shopping leave nothing to be desired. And then there is the cuisine, which is a favorite of international travelers everywhere, even those that insist on a vegetarian menu. Unfortunately, there are only a few vegetarian places on the entire island (three to be exact) and they are all in different cities, namely Alghero, Cagliari, and Olbia.

1. Ko De Kap

Located at Via Asfodelo 35 near at Via Garibaldi, and in front of the Piazza Della Pace. The venue here is strictly take-out and it is not 100% vegetarian so you need to be aware of that when perusing the menu. It is an organic restaurant and the menu is international, so not all of the cuisine is Sardinian. Suffice it to say, there are still plenty of vegetarian choices. Additionally, they do offer delivery no matter where you are staying in the city. The beer and wine list is fairly impressive as well.

2. T Restaurant

This is the highest quality restaurant in Cagliari and features a smaller vegetarian menu which is not near as extensive as the regular one. Additionally, all of the produce used is grown fresh on the island and despite the fact that any fish entrée is not vegetarian faire, it is brought in freshly caught from the Mediterranean the day it is to be cooked and served. All of the vegetarian dishes are prepared with a certain Mediterranean flair and the compliment to that savory meal is anyone of the many delectable wines that they offer.

3. Desole Farm House

Located at Su Canale – Monti. The farmhouse is actually situated deep within the lush Galluran countryside and has only been operating since 2003. However, don’t let that stop you, this is the finest Bed and Breakfast that you will find on the island, but with a twist. There is also the restaurant that is attached to the premises. The menu does vary somewhat based on the season, but it features the standard and the vegetarian entrees year round.

Photo of vegetarian antipasto in Oristano, Sardinia, by L I S S I

The hot and humid months from May to October see the heaviest tourist crowds but it still remains the ideal time to visit the island.

With its pristine beaches and nightlife around every turn, holidays on the island can oftentimes start with a party. However, there is so much more to Ibiza than meets the eye. For instance, there are the ancient towns, great cuisine, the pine forests, and village beauty that is absolutely spectacular. Ibiza’s heritage is somewhat hedonistic when you consider the last 30 years and the direction that local and international lifestyles of the island have taken.

Ibiza has been oftentimes been referred to as “the party capital of the world.” Top nightclubs, great DJ’s, some of the hottest bands, and a cosmopolitan mix of nightclub aficionados spell a great night on the town when visiting Ibiza. There’s a wider array of musical venues available now than ever before. Whether it’s electro, hip hop, house, R&B, rock, techno, or underground, the nightclubs in Ibiza have every dance and musical taste covered.

Though there is probably an argument for a lot of other places on the island as being the best hang-outs and having the tastiest cuisine, the following is a list of the better places to spend your evenings dining and then dancing the night away:

1. Winch’s Bar & Restaurant

Just off the beaten path, Winch’s is a great family run bar in San Antonio Bay. An excellent selection of both English and Spanish Beers, as well as other spirits are featured here along with a large garden terrace towards the back of the property where you can relax and enjoy your beverage.

2. El Pirata

Located in the Ibiza town port, this is where you can enjoy the best pizza on the island.

3. Space Nightclub (Playa d´en Bossa)

Having received numerous awards (e.g. Best Global Club) this club attracts people from all parts of the world.

4. The Curry Club

Tucked away behind the San Antonio’s sunset strip, the beautiful interior, serving staff, and the food are in a single word – amazing!

5. Jockey Club and “Malibu” (both on Salinas beach)

Listen to the deep house and chill-out tunes that the DJ’s spin as you experience one of the most perfect places on the island when it comes to drinking and watching people lying in the sun.

So, if you are going to Ibiza, don’t forget to chill at these pubs and restaurants.

The beaches, the casinos, and a glitzy atmosphere are all characteristic of the world renowned city of Monte Carlo.

It is a gambler’s frontier and a culinary paradise for every taste imaginable. For all practical purposes, this mecca located on the French Riviera is nothing short of a magical dream-world. Situated between coastal mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, Monaco offers the tourist an exceptional locale that is a blend of culture, picturesque gardens, and the smell of wealth all in one package.

Monte Carlo is the epitome of spectacularly exciting nightlife featuring a wide array of casinos and clubs to provide you with endless entertainment venues that will carry you through the night until the sun rises to start another day.

Be prepared to splurge a bit while you are there as you must sample the bars and clubs that define the Monte Carlo nightlife. Be aware also, that since the city is situated on the water, most of these establishments feature terraces for spectacular panoramas of the harbor. The following is a list of the best bars and clubs in Monte Carlo.

1. Bar at the Columbus Monaco

The Colombus Monaco is a classy hotel with a bar and club to match. It is comfortable and quiet, and helps you escape the wealthy “stuffiness” that is Monaco incarnate. Venture out onto the terrace with your drink as you await the meal you have ordered off the broad rotisserie menu. And if you really feel like splurging a bit hire the boat service to transport you to Mala Beach for a peaceful night’s rest.

2. Zebra Square

The Grimaldi Forum’s top floor of the hi-tech ocean-front of Monte Carlo is the setting for the sister bar of the same Paris location. Though the Paris location is oftentimes noisy and crowded this club provides the visitor with a panoramic setting above the harbor. Don’t be surprised at the presence of celebrities and models while enjoying your evening here.

3. The Blue Gin

This is to say the least, a magical club that is uniquely that which is Monte Carlo. It is part of the Monaco Bay Resort with furnishings that are modern and contemporary, yet warm and relaxing. The crowd is most definitely Monaco being glamorous, well-groomed, and exceedingly wealthy.

Chill out at the best clubs to enjoy a vacation in Monte Carlo!

More then just a sunny region in Portugal where travelers go to thaw out from the colder winter months the Algarve has become the most targeted destination in Portugal. The region is so unique due to its very interesting history that it has become one of the more important aspects of the landscape of Portugal’s landscape. The history of the region should never be overlooked despite its alluring and magnetic tourist qualities.

The Algarve’s south coast runs roughly 155 kilometers (96 miles) along the Atlantic Ocean and there are approximately 100 beaches that stretch along the Algarve seacoast. Some of the water temperatures at these beaches can be quite tropical feeling due to the action of the different sea currents. This holds true during the winter months as well. Additionally, the Algarve is one of the most unpolluted regions in all of southern Europe.

If its nightlife you’re looking for, the Algarve is second to none in this entertainment as you will find some of the discos, live music, and pub/disco combos are the best that you will find anywhere in Europe. However, this is not the only one of the region’s merits as you will soon discover when you dive into the beauty and history of the region.

The Algarve’s natural beauty coupled with its ideal climate makes this region of southern Europe one of the more ideal tourist destinations. Listed below are 4 of the most recommended nightspots to experience while visiting the Algarve, but beware – it can get rather boisterous as people kick up their heels deep into the night.

Avenida Tomás Cabreira, Praia da Rocha

Crammed with numerous glitzy bars and the trendiest of nightclubs, this lengthy esplanade in Praia da Rocha was one of the first resorts to ever be established in the Algarve region.

Casino Praia da Rocha

Despite the fact that the Algarve is alive with nightlife of all venues, and although visitors to the Algarve might want to explore some of the other gambling establishments, this is the casino that you want to be sure to visit if you’re in a gambling mood that requires a party-like atmosphere.

The Phoenix

How’s your endurance for nightlife? It’s a serious question to answer if you want to experience this disco. The atmosphere and the music make this one of the top nightclubs in the Algarve to party at. Oh and maybe the fact that it stays open until 6am – the latest closing of any club in the region – has something to do with its renowned popularity.

Red Eye

If it’s darts and pool that you fancy while enjoying a few tasty alcoholic beverages, Red Eye is a bar where locals and visitors alike can meet others over a drink or two while enjoying one another’s company.

In 2006, The Peloponnesian city of Patras, Greece was selected as Europe’s Cultural Capital, and for good reason.

The wide array of special events, exhibits, festivals, and various ongoing presentations, continue to delight large numbers of travelers annually, all of which have been designed to show the city of Patras at its best. For those of you who have never experienced the city, it is one of the best examples of a true Greek city. In addition to its tourist industry, Patras relies heavily on agriculture, its prolific wine country, and its busy shipping industry.

However, it is also renowned for its colorful Carnival Season and how it has preserved the performances of ancient Greek theater. The city is oftentimes referred to as Patra and is located on the northern coast of Greek’s Peloponnesian peninsula. It is situated near the new Rio-Antirio Bridge which links the Greek mainland to the peninsula. The city was founded in 1,100 BC and at one time was one of the major port cities in all of Greece. Today, it is the Peloponnesian peninsula’s largest city and principal port. Should you decide to vacation in Patras, here is a list of attractions that you might want to consider.

Explore Plateia Yioryiou (George Square)

Sit and admire the different facades of the banks in the square as well as the neoclassical theater. These are newer buildings as Patras has been rocked by earthquakes as well having been nearly burned to the ground during the War of Independence with the Turks. Plateia Olga and Plateia Martiou which feature numerous cafes, restaurants, and shops are other areas you should explore.

See the mosaics in the Cathedral of St. Andrew

Located near the waterfront, the Cathedral of St. Andrew was built after World War II. Its mosaics present a vivid picture of the city of “old” Patras. Be aware that appropriate dress is required. St. Andrew’s skull is on display in the cathedral near the right hand side of the altar. It is also a primary pilgrimage shrine. After touring the structure, take advantage of any one of the cafes situated in the shaded park located across the street from St. Andrew’s.

Visit the Archaeological Museum

Despite having been closed for recent renovations, if the Archaeological Museum is open it should be a priority on your agenda. It is usually open Tuesdays through Sundays and holds a wealth of displays about Greek culture and history as well as significant details about Patras’ past.

Spend the evening at the Roman Odeon

The Roman Odeon is located just off Platia Martiou and worth the visit if you’re energetic and want to take in some of the nightlife. There are numerous bars and cafes situated around here on the many pedestrianized streets. Venture up any of the streets leading to the Patras Fortress for an additional adventure.

The restaurant environs in Liverpool, UK, offer all the standard fast food establishments and national chains but the real joy about traveling is to sample the local cuisine of the city or country that you are visiting.

Therefore to really sample that which is truly Liverpool, you need to focus on the locally-owned eateries rather than the fast food spots and the national chains. This is especially true if your preference is vegetarian. It may seem a uphill task to find a decent restaurant that serves vegetarian delights but listed below are some of the top recommended vegetarian eateries in all of Liverpool.

1. Green Fish Café

Ovo, lacto, and Vegan-friendly restaurant

Breakfast is served until noon. After that the full menu is available. This is one of the busier vegetarian eateries in the city, so be prepared for a wait whenever you decide to come sample the varied menu. The menu includes items baked potatoes, curry, humous, roasted vegetables, salads, soya chili, and much more.

2. Next to Nowhere

English Vegan cuisine

Volunteers from the Merseyside region operate this radical social establishment featuring a kitchen space for providing an all Vegan veggie cuisine. It is also considered a non-profit establishment as well. One thing you will immediately notice is the abundance of political materials on animal rights.

3. Soupernatural

Fast-food, salad bar, and take-out venue that is ovo, lacto, and Vegan-friendly.

This is primarily a breakfast and lunch vegetarian eatery featuring salads, sandwiches and usually 4-5 different soups on the menu. Soya milk is the beverage of choice and despite the take-out venue, there are a few tables inside where you can enjoy your meal if you choose.

4. The Egg Café

Ovo, lacto, Vegan-friendly restaurant

This restaurant usually offers a couple of different soups each day and offers you a casual relaxed setting to enjoy a meal in. There are typically 3 daily specials, one of which is always Vegan, with a Sunday Vegan roast afternoon special.

5. Green Days Café

Ovo, lacto, and Vegan-friendly, but not 100% vegetarian food

The food served is additive and preservative-free and targets the pescatarian tastes as well as the vegetarian. Three fish dishes are featured on the menu with nearly 30 vegetarian dishes so you are bound to find something to satiate your palette.
