Dreaming of a once-in-a-lifetime road trip in Australia? Check out these three spectacular routes and get ready to explore the stunning Australian landscapes.

1. The Great Ocean Road

Probably the greatest road trip that Australia has to offer.

Dubbed a ‘natural wonderland’ this is an absolute must if you want to incorporate two of the most beautiful National Parks in the country. Otway National Park and Melba Gully – surrounded by forest and woodland and steep cliffs. 60 km of rugged cliff-top driving with crystal-blue waters to the side of you, with wild flowers unique to this part of Australia, valleys and fairy-tale waterfalls, this is the greatest drive that you can make while visiting or staying in Australia. Look out for wallabies, kangaroos and other nature native to this area. Don’t miss the 12 Apostles – a set of imposing rock formations along the coastline.

2. Sydney to Byron Bay

Another must-drive-yourself route. Travel north of Sydney and drive through Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, ideal for walks, and taking in some of the aboriginal artwork.

Head through to Newcastle, NSW’s second largest city. Famous for its great beaches, you can also explore the 5000 acres of vineyards and head to Forster near the Great Lakes of Port Stephens to see dolphins and whales. Coffs Harbour – is fast becoming known as the adventure capital of the East Coast – with skydiving, scuba diving and horse riding to name but three.

3. Sydney to Melbourne

An amazing 12-15 hour road trip (depending on how long you want to take and how long you want to stop off for along the way), between two of Australia’s greatest cities. Breathtaking scenery along the way that Middle-earth would be proud of.

An amazingly rewarding drive that does not truly sink in until you have actually completed it. Believe it or not, there is only one road all the way. The M1 or Prince’s highway – give or take the odd roundabout or junction, driving has never been such a doddle. Keep her in 4 th Gear and you can literally cruise all the way!

Stop off in Bateman’s Bay for lunch and enjoy the gorgeously friendly little town and get some good driver’s tucker in the variety of cafes and bay-fronted restaurants. Then drive on and head to Eden – A killer-whale sanctuary by all accounts! They worship them here! - visit the Killer-Whale museum or camp over and take a whale-watching trip on the excursions that run daily from the harbour.

Drive through various national parks and watch the sun go down behind the snowy mountains that you drive through just a few hours from Melbourne. Enter then Lakes Entrance and see the 90 Mile beach. The scenery is stunning. A great road trip with a heap loads of photos-potential and a good bonding session for you are your co-driver/passengers.
