Wales’ 2014 6 Nations Rugby Campaign

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014

The 15th annual 6 Nations Championship kicked off on 1st February 2014, and the Wales squad is primed. The proud Welsh players hope to emulate last year’s glorious title success, and many pundits are tipping them to do just that. Have they guessed right?

While the Wales rugby team surprised many people with their victory last year – including many of their own fans – hopes are high for this year. Head coach and rugby legend Warren Gatland hopes that the likes of Leigh Halfpenny, Bradley Davies and Gethin Jenkins are firing on all cylinders for the defence of their title. Wales have four 6 Nations titles already in the trophy cabinet, so a proud nation is looking on with high expectations.

Past Fixtures – Wins & Losses
This year’s curtain raiser kicked off on Saturday 1st February 2014 at the Millennium Stadium, where Wales took on Italy, winning for 23 – 15. Then, the squad played against Ireland on Feb 8th – this was the only match in which Wales lost (26 – 3). After two weeks, the monumental clash against the French took place on Friday 21st February at the Millennium Stadium, seeing Wales win for 27 – 6.

Fixtures to come
The second of the two away matches takes place on Sunday 9th March against arch-enemy England, before Wales wrap up their 6 Nations campaign with a home match against Scotland on Saturday 15th March. So, if you fancy a trip to the home of international rugby to watch Wales play England, there are some excellent hotels near Twickenham Stadium, London, including the Corinthia Hotel and the Charing Cross Hotel. And if you’re planning to watch Wales at home, there are some excellent hotels near Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, including the Cardiff Marriott Hotel, the Radisson Blu Hotel and the Park Inn by Radisson.
