The bathroom was quite brandnew but with an old fashion equipment. It's a pity for this kind of hotel.

Hotel very quaint and remarkable considering that the structure is over 500 years old. Staff very friendly and polite. Frontdesk was very friendly and had a sense of humour. The porter was extremely helpful and provided a bit of history of the building. The room was beatifully decorated with the look of 18/19th century furniture and decor. Bathroom was modern and very clean. The back of the hotel has a stunning backyard with tables for dining outside as well as loungers. Ideal location near main bus and train terminals. Bus ride to Marco Polo Airport only 20 minutes at a cost of 3E per person. Central to almost anything and if you are game for walking, most attractions are anywhere form 30-45 minutes away. The walks were a sense of adventure - maps are confusing so one needs to follow large yellow signs labeling major tourist spots - like St Marks Square.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Olimpia Hotel. Being adjacent to the bus and train terminal was perfect for us. The rooms are comfortable, the staff very helpful and it was a real bonus to be able to sit and have breakfast in their lovely garden area.

Due to airline problems/delays we were forced to check in to the hotle much later that we had anticipated. I called the hotel to noticfy the desk of our late arrival and was told that there was no problem. We arrived well after midnight and indeed someone was at the desk, much to our relief

We stayed at this hotel prior to boarding a cruise ship and its location was ideal for this as it was close to the pick up point for the shuttle bus which took you to the cruise line terminals. Would definately stay there again.

Standard room, at the back of the hotel. The room is up one flight of stairs, no elevator hence not suitable for people with weak knees. We met people who were on the same cruise ship as us.

We only stayed one day & night. Had to catch a cruise ship the next morning. It was near the port. The hotel met our needs very well. They carried our bags to the room, they had an elevator (very small),air conditioning, and spoke english too. The staff was very nice.

We usually rent apartments in Venice, not hotels, and we also avoid the Piazzale Roma area like the plague--it's a big, ugly parking lot--but if you need to catch a morning flight (as we did) and want to be close to the airport buses (which are very convenient and relatively inexpensive), I would recommend this hotel highly. Much better than staying out near the airport itself, because you can easily catch a waterbus into the center of Venice from P. Roma. We spent one night at the hotel, and found it to be clean, comfortable, reasonably-priced (for Venice) and quite close to--but not actually ON--the piazzale. You do have to drag your luggage over a largish bridge, with steps, but it's worth it to be a bit off the piazzale, we feel, and most hotels in the area require crossing a bridge. We would stay at the Olimpia again gladly, in similar circumstances. We were given a room that had once been part of a terrace, it seemed, and involved taking the elevator, going down the hall to the end, going through a door, and then down two short flights of stairs--it felt like a maze and was a longish walk from the elevator--but we had our luggage carried up for us, and the room itself was nice, spacious, comfortable, and very clean. Good bed and excellent shower! The breakfast buffet was more than ample for our needs: fruit, yoghurt, croissants, cereal, hard boiled eggs, cheese. You could order hot, prepared dishes for an extra charge.

Hotel Olimpia is in a great location for a stay before or after a cruise. Very easy to get to, (relatively speaking), from Marco Polo airport. Just take the ATVO bus to Piazalle Roma and walk to the hotel. Not so easy dragging luggage up & down steps of canal bridges for a cruise, but we managed. Otherwise, pay big bucks for a water taxi to the canal entrance. Also, ask about the free shuttle from P. Roma to the cruise port on embarkation day. Room was fine, service was excellent. Just ask - they were very helpful. We would definately stay there again.

A reasonable choice for Venice, especially convenient for access to the cruise ship terminal. A good breakfast and pleasant garden. Some of the staff seemed rather cold and unpleasant.

We satayed for 4 nights, the hotel is in a convenient place near the bus and railway stations but in a pleasant position on a canal. Our rooms at the rear of the hotel overlooked a peaceful garden, the rooms were a good size, clean and service was excellent. The cold buffet breakfast offered plenty of variety that we were happy with. Staff were friendly and efficient. Not maybe the hotel to get a really intimate window on Venice but we would recommend it to travellers looking for good service at a reasonable price. Bear in mind that a Saturday night Stay is more expensive than other nights.

The hotel is conveniently located right next to Piazzale Roma, easily accessible for visitors coming from the airport by bus or taxi. From here, the city is within easy reach, on foot or by vaporetto. Nice to get rid of luggage before starting to climb canal bridges! The interior is pleasantly furnished in romantic Venetian Rococo-style, with a lovely view of the canal and boats outside. Recommended!

We traveled with my sister and mother to Venice to join a 12 day cruise. When we returned we opted to spend another night in Venice. We were delighted with the hotel, our room, and the staff. The lobby, sitting room, bar area and breakfast room were done in good taste. The back of the building opens onto a lovely, large, garden area with tables. An amazing thing in such a crowded city. We chose this hotel because of the price, which included breakfast, and location to transportation from the ship, to the airport and to San Marcos Sq. Who knew we would get so much for our money. We also did not have to put money up front nor provide a credit card. We would recommend it.

Very welocming and helpfull and the room was very spacious - really a suite (144) could be hot in summer as in the roof part of building. As we were going on a cruise the position was perfect and they were happy to take care of the luggage until we sailed.

The front desk staff spoke great English and were very helpful. The location was extremely convenient although lugging suitcases up and down those two canal bridges was not fun. The front desk told us about the very cheap airport shuttle, which saved us lots of euros. My only observations are: shower stalls in both bathrooms was small (probably 20x20) and the air conditioner never seemed to really cool the room down. We didn't have a chance to sample any of the food (very early flight) and the room did seem expensive for what we got, but THATS VENICE.

The hotel was not easily found as it is located down a small dark canal and the sign is small which is placed flat against the wall so you can not see it from the angle of the street. We walked around for sometime (as everyone we asked, in other hotels/restaurants did not want to help and claimed the didn't know the place!!). The hotel reception was not overly friendly, specially considering that the first thing they did was change us to another hotel which did not have the facilities the orginal hotel I booked had. This was done with no appologise!! just "that's the way it is attitude". The reception at the other hotel had the same attitude as the first. During our stay, whenever we asked for assistance they reluctantly would, only because the had no choice, it is their job but they certainly didn't like it! And they would try to sell me a tour that they would provide (at a charge) after their hotel shift was over. The room was spacious and clean, had a cool view of the canal but that's about it! Breakfast was not too bad, we have had a lot better but it did the job. As for the rest of Venice...it is very unique...everyone should see it once - but only once and for one day. They money gouge you for everything. Extortion is more like it. The people are not at all friendly, as I would have expected from Italians. All they want is your money and nothing else and they don't care how they treat you because they know the tourists will keep coming because it's Venice. Venice was suppose to be the highlite of our European vacation. The food was lousy and small, small portions for outrageous prices. What a disappointment. All the other places we visited in Austria and Hungary put Venice and Italians to shame. I'm looking forward to going back to Europe but I WILL NOT be going back to Italy in any hurry.

Olimpia is a nice hotel. The staff is friendly, the garden is nice and there's a decent complimentary breakfast. Our room was on the 3rd floor without an elevator but we didn't mind. It was a charming room in the typical loud colors -- gaudy yet charming. Olimpia is located close to the bus station, the railway station and the main Vaporetto (water bus) station, yet it is quiet. It is within 5 minutes walk from a lot of nice cafes and restaurants. The main tourist attractions are 20-40 minutes away on foot, but it's a charming walk. Remember: You'll need a map!

While this hotel is ideally located, it is old and tired. The bathroom was clean, but the room was cramped with bad beds, pillows as hard as rocks, grimy carpet, and less than stellar bed clothes. They have a very small elevator, which wasn't working, so don't carry a lot of heavy luggage. I would not stay here again. Best Western needs to get its act together regarding beds. They need to take pointers from Marriott and Westin regarding their sheets, pillows and blankets. Good breakfasts, pleasant and helpful staff and the fact that we didn't spend much time in the room helped make us less cranky about the state of the room.

We were put in the sister hotel next door, the Arlecchino. However, we were given a wonderful room overlooking the canals. (The change of hotel is a common practice, according to reports on the internet) We personally have no complaint on this. What we wanted more than anything, being English guests in a foreign country, was tea making facilities in the room. We thought this was automatic with Best Western. (Room service cannot replace this) The views from the room were wonderful and the hotels couldn't be in a better position. Next door to the bus station, where buses arrive from the airports, and also the the car park for those arriving that way. The train station is only a few hundred yards away. It is only a short walk to the vaporetto stop and the No.1 goes all the way to St. Marks Square, and then on to the Lido. Transport in Venice is superb.

My only complaint is the price, but this is not the fault of the hotel, as they are simply keeping pace with the market in VEnezia. The rooms are small, but for two of us we had ample closet space. The location is very convenient for rental cars, trains, buses, taxis, etc. The staff were very polite, multilingual and efficient.

We were especially appreciative of some extra assistance provided us by the hotel staff. We mailed two parcels of travel items from Venice. One arrived on time and was delayed for almost 3 weeks. We called the hotel and asked me to fax them all the information. They actually went to the post office and inquired on our behalf and then e-mailed us the information. We were quite appreciative of this assistance. The hotel property is ideal for departures. It is close to the Piazzale di Roma and to the Vaporetto station.

If you can indeed get the room you reserved, this is a nice place in a great location. However, they routinely book for Olimpia and then when you come to check in they try to slough you off to their "sister" hotel next door, the Arlecchino Hotel (more about that in a minute). I say "routinely" because they tried to do this to me and 70+-year-old mother, I saw them try it with other guests during our 3-day stay, and if you search the internet (e.g., http://www.virtualtourist.com/hotels/Europe/Italy/Veneto/Venice-140867/Hotels_and_Accommodations-Venice-Arlecchino_Hotel-BR-1.html) you can find similar reports from other travelers. When I checked in and was resistant to a move, I asked to see the rooms first. They showed me two rooms, both of which were small but nice, but when they opened the bathroom doors, they reeked of a horrible sulfur smell, which the bellhop who was showing me the rooms claimed not to be able to smell. When I refused both rooms and demanded the room we had reserved, they finally gave us a fancy suite for the night, and then moved us to a normal room the next day. One other warning: they have an elevator, but on some floors you have to take stairs to get to it. If stairs are an issue for you, specify you need NO stairs (though Venice is very difficult for those who cannot do any stairs!). Other than that, I give the place a good rating -- it was clean, VERY conveniently located near the vaporettos, train station, bus station (very easy to get to the airport if you're departing from Venice), and the breakfasts were wonderful (besides a nice buffet, they would cook up eggs to order for a small additional charge).

Paid a pretty penny for this hotel and room that was a "deluxe". The room was not very large, although it was nicely appointed. Air conditioning worked well and did not need an activation card for the power. We were abutting the courtyard which wasn't as nice a view as the canal, but very pleasant. Close to the Piazzale Roma and train station which makes catching a bus, train or vaporetto quite easy. There was also a grocery store nearby so that we could spend less than $6 on a bottle of water. I would exercise some cheaper options next time, but would have no problem staying here again.

Olimpia was a good choice for a one-night pre-cruise stay. Convenient to P. le Roma for transport to/from airport and for getting on the water bus for travel anywhere in Venice. Had seen a review somewhere suggesting walking to the cruise terminal, but we don't advise it. Staff was helpful and spoke English fairly well. Let us drop off luggage when arrival was a few hours before check-in. A/C didn't work, but the room had 2 windows so a cross-breeze made it comfortable. Later in the season, this wouldn't be a good solution (mosquitoes weren't really out yet at end of May). Lift/elevator is tiny, mostly used for moving luggage. Overall, a great value.

My wife and I liked the Hotel Olimpia. You will pay high room rates, but that is Venice. It is quiet, and has a lovely courtyard garden to escape to if you want to get away from the hordes of tourists in Venice. Very helpful, fluent English speaking staff. The location is right off the Grand Canale by a vaporetto line so it easy to get "up town" to the Accademia, San Marco Square, etc. The hotel is one block from the train station and rental car drop off site (but still quiet on a small canal), so getting into Venice and your hotel is easy when you stay here. If you stay in the center of town, you have to pay hefty water taxi fares or lug your bags on crowded vaporettos to get to your hotel.

Great location if coming from the cruise port or bus station. The staff was very helpful and the room was clean but small (as usual in Europe). A bit pricey but in the correct range for a three-star. Can walk or water taxi to all the sights in Venice. Easy trip to the airport with the bus station right adjacent to the hotel.

Hotel Olimpia has a very convenient location. I was happy to realize that after being left at the Piazza Roma, my husband and I only needed to go over 1 bridge with our luggage to reach the hotel. The staff were very helpful, kind and spoke English very well. The room was small but charming and clean. I loved how our window opened up to a beautiful back garden. The breakfast was delicious. I thought the room rate was extremely expensive for the size of the room, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Olimpia.

Nice Hotel. The room was good sized and the bathroom was nice. They had a breakfast room with cereals, fruit, breads and lunch meats. You could also order cooked eggs. The only problem I had with the hotel is that it smelled strongley of mold and mildew, otherwise it was a good place to stay. The staff was very helpful. The only thing that would keep me from going back is the smell.

First holiday in Europe for my daughter, who lives/works in Middle East. Chose Olimpia from website based on location to Piazza Roma and the Cruise terminal, as we followed our stay in Venice with MSC Armonia Cruise of Greek Islands. Price was also a factor. My travel agent (for cruise booking) has asked for feedback re your hotel for them to pass on to other New Zealanders looking for Venice accom. I enjoyed walking around the local shops and we enjoyed an evening meal at a nearby Italian restaurant.

I stayed in the Olimpio in April 2006 for one night - the Hotel is highly recommended. It is close by Piazzale Roma - so if you arrive by bus from Marco Polo airport its in front of you - if you arrive by train you walk over the bridge you will see in front of you after coming out of the station [Ponte dei Scaalzi] turn right and walk along the side of the canal till you get to Piazzale Roma [approx 5 mins maybe more if lugging lots of bags] - Piazzale Roma is a main stop for all the different vaporetti - No. 1 line will bring you along the Grand Canal to Rialto Bridge, St Marks etc - make sure you get the daily ticket which works out as better value even if you only use the service once or twice. Breakfast at the hotel was good, lots of choice, but its a continental style breakfast don't expect bacon & eggs. The staff in the Olimpio were very friendly, spoke good English & were v. helpful. Rooms were a bit small but when in Venice you won't be staying long in your room. Overall its a great hotel and I will return to it on my next trip to Venice.
