Actually very easily accessable via public transport contrary to previous comments i read. But the room is really small and so are the bathrooms!! Surprisingly there is no coffee/tea making fascilities in the room, which i found a little inconvenient, as i usually like a hot cup of tea at bed time, so i had to make a trip to the 5rh floor to get a cup of tea which was cold by the time it reached the room!! The staff were fantastically helpful and friendly with plently of friendly advice as to the most economical way to travel, where to go and what to do...if it wasnt for the good nature of the staff, i would have given much lower ratings to the hotel, as the accomodations were very VERY cramped contrary to what was actually advertised!!

Embarassing. Definitely not recommendable. The room was ridiculously small (approx. 3m x 2), it was meant to be a double but couldn't fit a single person. Bathroom in good condition but with a small window and no fan. The view, on an inner patio with clothes hanging on wires, poor. No sound-proof window. The mini-bar (included in the rate) offered 6 small bottles of water.

Very, very nice staff, most all spoke good english and made the stay pleasant. Were helpfull on all levels. Really liked the little breakfast area with two small patios overlooking the Tiber river, was satisfied with the breakfast as well. We had 5th floor room with a tub that was huge. A lightly stocked mini bar at no charge extra was nice too. Day and night just left the window open and had a great view of the full moon over the river. The next day thunder and lightning! Again, can't say enought how pleased I was by the staff.

Though the hotel was pretty basic the staff were outstanding and could't do enough for you. The rooms though small were clean and comfortable, road outside was a bit noisy but apart from that we had a very enjoyable stay.

A boutique hotel situated close to the Tiber River. Bus service to the city close by together with local shops and restraunts. Although the room was compactit was very clean and tidy. The window opened onto an inner courtyard which made the room very quiet. The reception staff very helpfull. Breakfast selection was excellent and being able to eat in on the balcony over lookin Roma was delightful. Would certainly return to this hotel

A little out of the centre but once we got used to the trams, very convenient. Tram No 2 into local centre then direct connection to Metro or easy walks to most sites except Vatican. Latter easily accessible by Tram 2 then Tram 16?. Great breakfast and great views from terrace of resturant. Very friendly staff here. Limited English in reception. Taxis easy and not too expensive. If you are travelling with a family (we were 2 adults and 3 children in early teens) take a taxi back to airport - about 46 euros - cheaper than train, metro and tram!! No pool was an issue but cheap restaurant with good food just around corner next to Tram 2 stop called I think Le Friseria. Also great but cheap restaurant with good food at Tram Terminus sited on road next to Burger King back toward Astrid. Aircon a bonus along with free soft drinks daily.

Our family enjoyed Rome and the pleasant Astrid Hotel where we had breakfast with a beautiful view to Basilic of Saint Peter at Vaticano. Car Parking was in front the hotel and if you believe free at all. The staff are friendly, the breakfast was very good, the place is nice, close to the river and to the most beautifull tourist points. We had no problems with the reservation of our 3 rooms. All of them were ready according to our request. Finally, we did the best choise staying at this hotel because our family - a group of 6 persons that was spending vacation, travelling in Europe by car.

We had only one night at Hotel Astrid but certainly enjoyed the property. It is in somewhat of a residential area with some shops. I recommend anyone interested, get themselves a better map than the one offered on the website. We arrived by bus and ended up wandering around with our suitcases on the street, somewhat disoriented for a while. The busses can be a bit confusing if it is your first time to Rome. However the hotel is convenient to bus and trams, although a bit of a foot hike from attractions. The hotel staff was extraordinarily pleasant, friendly, and helpful - Thank you so much. We were indulged with a patio seat for the breakfast buffet that was delicious and a nice start to our day. The rooms were clean and nice. Rooms in Rome are all small in this price range so don't expect much square footage. After all, do you really need it? Hopefully, you won't be spending much time in the room. We would definitely consider a stay with Astrid on our next trip.

Room compact but ok a little superficial and adequate rather than good, no view at all, generally quiet but annoying internal noises late afternoon. Nice interior and breakfast room with views but not quite as good as we had expected from previous reviews. Breakfast fine with attentive staff. Certainly not on the door step of anywhere but when you know the tram and metro routes travel was not a problem although it is out of centre Generally ok but a little expensive considering location and room

The hotel is well-situated for those interested in events at the Parco della Musica or the Stadio olimpico. The breakfast room is lovely, overlooking the Tiber. The rooms are getting somewhat shabby and need to be redone. Torn wallpaper, slightly broken shower fixtures, worn carpets. None are deal breakers and I have stayed there many times and likely will again, but it is time to update the rooms a bit for the prices charged.

The room was very dated but the bathroom was spacious and clean. They really could have used fresh carpet and wallpaper. Our room was on the street and it was noisy but not unbearable. The public areas are nice and the architecture inside is beautiful. Very near public transportation and easy to get to St. Peters which you can see from the rooftop restaurant. The restaurant service in the evening was FABULOUS and very good in the morning as well. There are two little terraces with small tables that look out over the river and St Peter's. Sit there if you can get a spot. I would go there again simply because the overall service was great and the restaurant service was exceptional.

Stayed in a triple. It was tiny, but clean. But the bathroom was large and lovely. Elegant old building, and we really liked it. Staff was friendly and helpful too. Espresso etc, and breakfast fairly good, and was taken on the terrace area. Very nice indeed! What a view!! It was located away from the hub of everything, but close enough for a short cab to sights, or a long walk along the Tiber to see things.

Very good staff. Fantastic marble staircase. Clean hotel. Was given room by the lift despite asking not to have this, however not too noisy. What was noisy was the traffic. No double glazing so constant road noise until 2am. Bathroom small and cramped but well stocked. Fantastic view out over the Tiber onto St Peter's. Having breakfast every morning (which was ample and filling), over looking Rome was superb. Worth it just for that. Not far out of the city which essentially can be walked quite easily. Watch out for the Metro closing at 9.30pm though! Would recommend for breakfast alone.

The Hotel Astrid had two great things going for it. The breakfast area/bar lounge on the 5th floor had a stunning view of the city of Rome. We started and ended every day up there. The front desk staff was also very efficient and helpful. The negatives: VERY small room, plaster on wall had not been repaired. Our room was next to the lift which had an outside gate that was slammed shut every time someone used it. Construction was going on inside the building which is only partially used by the hotel. I would probably try to find another place to stay the nextt time we come to Rome, but grew to like the Astrid over our 4 night stay.

The room size, while small, was typical for what I've experienced in Europe. The only complaint I have is that the shower was even smaller than most. Other than that; the service crew was excellent; very friendly and helpful which is probably THE most important detail when traveling from another country. The breakfast was very good and provided a wonderful view from the balcony. I enjoyed the location of the hotel; just a 3-4 minute tram ride from Piazza del Popolo and all the shops and restaurants one could possibly want. I also found a couple of excellent restaurants within two blocks of the hotel. I was in Italy for two weeks so I had to use laundry service, which was very reasonable. Overall - if I go back to Italy, I'm staying at the Astrid again.

Astrid is a lovely hotel, the staff were brilliant and very helpful, the complimentary breakfast was a great bonus. The location is fine, a little bit out from the centre of everything but it was nice to escape the throngs of crowds and the trams are frequent enough for it not to be a problem.

We stayed at the Astrid two nights at the beginning of our trip, and four nights two weeks later before returing home. When I booked the hotel, I was concerned that the location might make it difficult to get around. This was not a problem at all. It is just two short blocks from tram (trolly) #2, which takes you quickly to Piazza del Popolo. From there you can get the Metro to go to Stazione Termini, and all the tourist attractions. The hotel was very clean, the staff spoke English quite well, and were helpful. The breakfast included a good variety of items and was plentiful. The interior room we stayed in was very quiet, while the outside room came with traffic noise. Yet it was wonderful to be able to open the windows, something that would be rare in the States. We were very satisfied with the hotel, and felt it was a good value for the money.

There was a dance class in the bacememt on two of the five nights we were there, which made a lot of noise up to 11pm,however we were given a reduction on the price when we complained. The staff were first class very helpful in every way they could .There was a good public transport service, tram and metro.

This was our first visit to Rome and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Astrid. The location of the hotel was perfect for visiting all the famous sites in Rome and we found the staff at the hotel to be most helpful at all times. Our room, although a little small (but who visits Rome to stay in your hotel room?!) had a fantastic view over the river and you could also see St Peters dome in the distance. The breakfasts were plentiful and lots of choice and we also made use of the new addition of a bar for pre-dinner and late night drinks. If we were to return to Rome we would definitely stay at the Hotel Astrid and would not hesitate in recommending it to our friends.

Nice Hotel for a 3-Star-big-city hotel. Very friendly employees. Good breakfast as well compared to the standard you would expect in a 3-Star Hotel in Italy. Somebody looking for really quiet rooms might be disappointed. Tourist tram ticket recommended due to location of the hotel.

I stayed with my parents, in a triple which is probably not the best room type to do a rating! However the front office was extremely helpful and polite. The terrace restaurant had a good view across the Tiber (Tevere) including the Vatican, and the included breakfast was reasonably good with a decent spread and lovely range of coffees, and excellent service staff - one of the most polite and hospitable in my stay throughout Europe. The lift was rather old fashioned and in need of TLC, but added to the charm of the place. The hotel is on the riverside and fairly quiet, being on the north side of town, with the tramstop a short walk away connecting to the city centre. The minibar was free and the staff informed you of that, and this was replenished daily! The only downside was the smaller size of room but that made it an excellent value for money (80 euros for a triple then). However I recomended it widely and within a couple of months, it had doubled in price! Would still recommend it!

We've really been impressed by this hotel. It's really a very good one. At the beggining we were a bit sceptic because it's 3 stars ***. I usually go to 4 or 5 stars but this one was much better than we expected. It has a very good situation, 3 tramway steps from Flaminio which is in the center. The hotel is pretty easy to find, very quiet and close to everything. The staff is also really nice, friendly and very helpfull. The hotel has a terrace on the 5th floor and from there you can see the coupol of the Vatican and the River. It's really lovely. So, I can just recommend this hotel.

Hotel was nice and the staff was helpful. The rooms were very tiny; we had 2 rooms a double and a triple and you could hardly move around. The bathroom was tiny, especially the shower, but very clean. The breakfast was very good and they made fresh cappacino! Hotel was wonderful, lovely staf. Good price. Staff were so helpful, friendly, and welcoming. Great tousist map from hotel. Lovely quiet location, breakfast overlooking Tiber river, but you can take Tram 2 from around corner and in 10 min you're in Piazza del Popolo / Flaminia metro, which is nice for food and shopping. Also think I saw a Bus 901 pass nearby that goes direct to Termini station. I would stay at this hotel again. Only downside is that hotel does not have a bar or restaurent. Warning, there is only one good local restaurent Tiepolo (which is really great). Other restaurents are horrible, so give them a miss. DO NOT GO to the nearby Pizzaria on Via del Venezia. We were there with a few other non-locals and our waiter was surly & rude to us.Literally threw food on table, we could see that non-locals were not welcome.Spent his time talking to friends and ignored us.Spoiled our first night. I'm vegetarian and at the other restaurent I was charged €20 for a plate of cold aparagus, beans and spinach !!! So our advice for food is go to Tiepolo, or head for Piazza del Popolo.

Although a little way out of the centre, a short tram ride provides access to transport to all parts of the city. Our room on the 4th floor was small & in need of refurbishment but had all the elements required for our stay. Aircon was not opperative, possibly due to the time of year (April) but the weather was warm (mid 20's C) & we would have benefitted from it being available. The continental buffet breakfast on the 5th floor terrace was plentiful & there was a good range of (cold) food. The extensive views across the river & the city were a bonus. Hotel staff were friendly & helpful. In particular the receptionists were happy to provide advice on local restaurants (very few, but the 2 we used were very good; full of locals; always a good sign)and transport arrangements to all parts of the city. We would recommend the hotel to others as being good value for money with friendly efficient staff.

Every employees was very nice, competent and very helpful, it was very appreciable. The breakfast was high quality : a lot of choice. The location of the hotel is good : you can go to the town center by feet if you like walking ( 20 min to go to the plazza di popolo, and the same time to go to the Vatican). You can also take the tramway or the subway, it's easy to go to. Bus tickets are sold on the reception of the hotel. We decided on this hotel mainly because of the positive comments about it compared to other hotels and we were very pleased with the hotel itself. The location is a little out of the way, requiring a 20 minute walk to get to main attractions. The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful and spoke good English, but you had to ask the right questions! they could do with working on this aspect of their service. It would have helped if we had known about the No. 2 tram around the corner that takes you to the Piazza Palonna in about 5 minutes, we found out towards the end of our stay. I would suggest that the hotel compile a simple handout informing guests about the tram and bus system and also the ticketing proceedure which caught us out (you need to buy them in a bar, shop or some other place before getting on, not obvious!). One other thing missing was a hotel bar (there wasn't one nearby either), which would have been really nice to use at the end of a long day sightseeing or before going out for the evening, but for all that, we found the Hotel Astrid a very pleasant, very clean and tastefully decorated place to stay, recommended.

We really liked the feel of this hotel. Great elegant building, marble staircase, traditional lift, high ceilings, combined with well appointed rooms. Our room faced the courtyard at the back and was very quiet. We really loved the rooftop breakfast room and terrace where we sat on a balcony overlooking the Tiber and Rome, just perfect. Only down side is the position, slightly out of city centre, you need to get yourself a very good local transport map and get organised, or rely on taxis. Good value for money. We would stay again.

Night life is limited because of the location and bus/train available. We would have liked to be more centrally located, but the staff and the accomodations provided makes up for it. I accidentally left my camera battery and charger, and Tiziana was kind enough to forward to my hotel in Florence. The concierge staff gave very personalized attention, great recommendations and went above and beyond their duties. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. Highly recommended!

A very nice hotel, and a great breakfast on the terace with beautiful views of the Tiber, Basilica, etc. The room was clean, the bathroom modern and functional. Without asking, the maid brought a beautiful vase for flowers that we had purchased at a local vender. While a bit on the outskirts, it is easy to catch the #2 tram to the Metro station - easy to travel to all the important spots from there. We would defintely stay again, and we defintely want to return to Rome.

Being Rome, the hotel was fairly ok. I paid 140 euros in September 2005 for a triple room. The room was a double room and they installed a supplemental bed which was not very bad, but it left no spare space. The breakfast terrace was very nice and it could be used along all the day. The hotel shares a condominium with some other apartments which is a bit odd but not at all an inconvenience. The staff was correct and quite helpfull.

The staff was super accomodating, helpful and friendly, the terrace where I took breakfast has a beautiful view. The rooms were clean, the bath room (seems to have been renovated recently)was very comfortable and very clean. Near the hotel there were several restaulants some of which were full with people in the locality. If you don't mind to take a tram,I would recommend it.

Excellent rooms and service. Only drawback was the noise from traffic outside which starts very early. Rooms facing courtyard probably quieter. Otherwise a good choice.

We were pleasantly suprised to find such a nice hotel for the price. As it is about a 5 min tram/bus ride from the main part of downtown Rome you can get a nice quiet place with excellent furnishings, and a view of the Tiber for a good price. Includes a continental breakfast buffet that really gets you going in the morning. Air conditioning is a nice feature as well.

Hotel is very nice, clean. Breakfast outside at the 5th floor, great! Staff very friendly, good English. Rooms a bit small, but ok. Public traffic (tram) 5 minutes from the hotel, so it doesn`t matter, that the hotel is a bit away from city centre.

The hotel is way out of town in a run down area facing a busy main road, it takes a tram and metro to get central rome, and they close early. It also has offices in it??? The staff are friendly and hotel is clean and does sell tram tickets. Unfortunately, I left my Umbrella and Hat in my room, I rang back the next to get them, but was shocked to hear they had already thrown them out!!. I would not stay again

We throughly enjoyed our stay here. If its your first time in Rome, you may want to be more central to make it easier to walk to the main sights. From this hotel you need a tram (stop v nearby) to get to the underground, then you are a few stops away from the main sights. This is an easy journey, and has the advantage of making the surroundings much quieter. Also v convenient for the Auditorium and Villa Borghese.

Hotel Astrid was a great place to stay if you don't mind walking a little bit. We took a taxi from airport, and it was 40 Euro, as the website said. It's about a 20 minute walk to Piazza del Popolo and the closest Metro station. A nice walk along the river will get you to St. Peter's. The rooms are very clean and nice. The breakfast balcony is very nice in the morning, and the view of St. Peter's is a nice touch. The breakfast is plenty, and the service was great. Villa Borghese is also close by, and that was a nice bonus.

I enjoyed my stay. Very competent and helpful staff. Clean hotel. Quiet double paned windows. Close to trolley lines which is quite a plus. Lovely breakfast room. Made to order cappucinos in the morning. Area very safe for a single woman.

Because this hotel is a little further from the centre of Rome, we think we got better value for the price. The room was larger than other 3 star hotels we have stayed at in Italy and it offered a more extensive breakfast and complimentary treats in the room (soft drinks, bottled water, chips, cookies - very nice to arrive to). It have a lovely view from the breakfast terrace of the Arno and St Peters Basilica. The staff was friendly and helpful, telling us how to get where we wanted to go by bus and subway. We had a nice walk home along the river the first night we were there.

The hotel was very clean and we were pleased to get a room overlooking the river. It was a fair size however our friends were given a smaller more cramped room on a corner. The buffet style continental breakfast was a winner. We had fantastic weather and were able to sit on the terrace with a view of the river. On the 2nd day we realised you could turn left out of the hotel and hop on a tram to Piazza del Poppolo and transfer to a metro to reach other destinations this made the location much more attractive. We would stay again.

Overall, for Rome and it's prices, it was a good value. Rooms were a little small and the phone in room wouldn't work with a calling card, but otherwise I would recommend it. The staff was very nice and the hotel was close to many places of interest.

The Astrid is a lovely place too stay, not too far from the main sights. The staff are extremely helpful. There is free internet access in the lobby. The building is beautiful. It is not very near any restaurants, but a short taxi ride away, and near the bus route.
