Hotel Best Western Continental - Pau

Hotel provided good value for the price. We stayed two nights - Sunday and Monday. Our dinner on Monday was excellent - price was reasonable compared to other hotels we have been to.

The hotel is an older hotel located in the center of Pau with convenient walking distance to rail station. Rooms are large and modernized. The reception desk staff is most helpful expecially Annabelle who helped us overcome some problems. The breakfast is well worth the 9 euros extra.

You will be aware that the new one way systems in Pau are a nightmare. Your directions need to be updated as access cannot be gained from directions I received. Hotel staff excellent, especially the receptionist who was of great assistance in helping us to the hotel and garage parking. Good location in town centre close to all amenities. We will stay again!

The Best Western C has a system of cheaper and not-so-cheap rooms. If you book at the Venere rate you may well get a very outdated type of 1950s decor. Personally, I liked that, so that was okay. The more expensive rooms tend to be on the lower floors, and mainly for business travellers. The location is excellent, the staff most pleasant and helpful. It is better than some hotels in terms of ease of getting the train station. Although the dining room doesn't have much atmosphere, the waiters were lovely and the standard of cooking high. The best scallop dish I've had in years!

The hotel is nice. Guests should be reminded to take the free funicular to the top, and then the hotel location will be fairly obvious-right, left, right. If you try to walk instead to the left, it is very long and the hotel is hard to find.

We had flown into Pau with Ryanair on our way to Lourdes. It was easy to get to Lourdes via Taxi to Pau Railway station (25euros) and a train to Lourdes (13 euros return)We opted to stay overnight in Pau on our return journey, thus using the Best Western from comments made on Trip adviser and Venere sites. We were pleased with the Best Western. Some had described it as dated but the room we had was on the fifth floor and was spacious with a separate bathrom and toilet. It was clean and included a safe.The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The hotel is well located and we were able to reach it by foot via the venicular opposite the railway station, then a short walk. Pau itself is an impressive, although seemingly quiet town. The BW is very central for all the main sites being close to the large Place Clemenceau. The nearby Rue Mal Jeffre leads to the Place Reine Marguerite which has numerous cafes and restaurants, most reasonable priced, with outside seating to take in the atmosphere, which included musical groups. We didn't eat in the BW so I can't comment on the food but we were happy with the hotel.

I stayed only one day as I had an early flight from pau after visiting Lourdes. The hotel stands in the centre of the town though there are no shops open on Sunday. looks like a small castle and rooms are also colourful and sweet. Staying at this hotel and Pau is OK only except the difficulty that there are no taxies even at the taxi stand and aroud Pau station.

Good prices. The furniture was old-fashionated and the rooms smelled rather mouldy. Also bathrooms needed renovation
