Handily positioned geographically as a cheaper Med-side alternative to Monaco, which proved to be a relatively brief and traffic-jam free rental car drive into adequate underground car parks on the Grimaldi Forum side of town and the street full of bar/restaurants one block back. Best advice when booking at the Prince of Galles, so that you are way above buzzy scooter traffic noise on prom road (between hotel and sea), is to go for a room on the top floor. Mine had a balcony, too, which, though ledge-sized, was a great way to end and start the day. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room though - and breakfast was a bit of a mad scramble for the self-service bits with everyone hitting the breakfast room/terrace at the same time. Catching a waitress eye to order coffee was also challenging if time was tight. Another plus point about staying in Menton is that you can also use the 'Pay as you Go' Autoroute (remember to have euro coins ready to hurl at the toll both buckets!) to speedily byepass Nice and Monaco when going to/from Nice Airport. Overall 8 out of 10. Happy Travelling! RH-E

Splendid location on the French riviera. The hotel, a former "hôtel particulier" of a prince is currently being refurbished. The new rooms are perfect with spacious showers and a fridge. The rooms that have not been redone yet (but are being redone) are also nice, they have a bathtub and the legendary bidet but are altogether clean and spotless. More importantly, the location is ideal, a mere 5 minute walk from old Menton, an architectural beauty. And last but not least, Françoise and Line, the sisters who welcome you there, are so nice and helpful. Whatever you need, they will go out of their way to help you. The restaurant downstairs, Le Petit Prince, has excellent and affordable menus. Breakfast is also excellent and affordable. All in all, an absolute winner if you're going to Menton.

The Hotel Prince de Galles is located on the west side of Menton and is easy to reach by car. There is limited parking in the front of the hotel on a first come first served basis and also paid private gated parking about 200 meters away with 24 come and go access. There is parking on the street. Being on the west end, It is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the center of town. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and attentive. If you ask, the staff will provide you with information, where to go and what to do in Mention and the local area. Even though the hotel is on the water, it does not have beach access. There is a paid private beach across the street offering half and full day rates which include use of a chase lounge and you can purchase food and/or drinks. This is ideal for adults traveling without children. There are public beaches within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel does offer use of beach towels upon request. When booking a room facing the sea and if you are a late riser or want to sleep in, be aware that you might prefer booking on one of the upper floors as the motor bike parking is in the courtyard below the rooms on the seaside. If there are a number of bikers staying, be prepared to be woken around 08:00 AM. Also, you should probably not book a room on the first floor as some of the rooms are located directly over the restaurant on one side and the motor bike parking on the other. The hotel does offer breakfast at a reasonable cost either in the room, a continental breakfast in the lounge, or a buffet breakfast on the sea side terrace. The hotel does have a restaurant which should be tried at least once. The food is well prepared, the presentation is unique, and there is a choice for everyone. The value for the money is worth the stay and we will stay at the hotel again when visiting Menton.

Very nice place so close to the sea. Outside a bit noisy may be the window panes a little thin ?We'll come back Menton is a very pleasant resort, and we'll try the half pension with the restaurant "le petit prince" which looks very nice as well.

We stay in France a great deal so have a myriad of experience of French Hotels. This one was one of the best in terms of overall value for money and that 'good' feeling you get from a place that is friendly and efficient. The room was comfortable and the public area was contemporary and nice; in deed we had drinks etc there at least once a Day. Overall very happy, we will certainly use this Hotel again. Thanks.

We DON'T recomend this hotel at all. Was noisy (you could hear all the noise from the other rooms...). The room smell horrible. The bathroom didn't work properly. The breakfast was poor and expensive.

A bit far from the town centre (right on the edge of Menton) but handy for buses and good location for walks along Cap Martin and access to Gorbio and Serre del Madone gardens.

The location of the hotel and the outside areas were excellent and the room 449 was more than adequate in size for a short stay the baloncy was a huge bonus. The only small and very small complaint is that compared to other Western Hotels the public areas inside eg reception and bar are below standard.

Some difficulties at the very beginning - Room was not a triple as ordered but a double with additional folding bed - Closed parking had to be paid but was free of charge in the venere offer. Both issues were solved quickly (Room was changed to 4 (real) Beds room and I got a rebate of 50% on the parking). Very nice and clean hotel good atmosphere and good service. Breakfast also was good. I spent a great vacation with my family.

All of the staff were very welcoming, efficient and friendly. The vast majority could speak better English than my French, which was very helpful on various occasions. The only thing that could have made an improvement would have been the availability of a kettle in the room (we did not expect one so this in not a deficiency in the advertised specifications).

My only complaint is the wardrobes. They are not sufficient. It was "inserted" into the wall, with a folding door. This is not neat. This was, however, the only negative point.

Stayed two nights in a double room with balcony and sea view in June 2006. Great location and good for a 3star hotel on this coastline. Parking is on the street at front of hotel and "every man for himself arrangements". Some parking at rear, but not enough. Beach in front of hotel and further up towards Casino has patches of crude oil on it, so watch out. Room was average, bathroom good, room recently modernised and quite comfortable. Air-con installed, but not switched on. Road noise not really a problem providing double glazed doors to balcony closed at night, downside was it made room very warm. Breakfast was good with a of choice of pastries, cereal and rolls plus good coffee. Hotel staff very helpful and very keen to please, most speak english. Tried to book a table for dinner in the restaurant attached to hotel. Head waiter was extremely rude when we tried to book a table at 20:00hrs and didn't understand the meaning of good customer service. Not recommended and reflects very badly on the hotel who sub-let it out. Complaint registered with hotel. Overall I would recommend this hotel for a short break and its excellent location.

Stanze tranquille.

Look the information the website regarding the hotel is misleading. There was no AC in the room, the bathroom was moldy and the general amenities of the room poor and cramped. Also, the map on the website suggested a walkway by the sea and a road behind the hote. In fact, the seaward facing side had a fairly busy road and attendant traffic noise. The redeeming features were the sea view and general beautiful surroundings in Menton. But these do not excuse the relatively poor value provided by this hotel. Surprising since I've been pleased with other Best Western endorsed hotels.
