Hotel Best Western Charlemagne - Lyon

It's the second time that I book a Western hotel in 6 months and both times it was very disappointed for the value for money. Here : a) breakfast in the room was like at the canteen b) the smell in the corridor ( floor 2) : disgusting - dirty like WC in the railways station c)when I compared ( both times) with some 2 stars ( in Lyon for instance Bayard Hotel, where I was one year sooner) or Three stars ( In Lyon Mercure Beaux Arts where I was in sept 2011) I had the impression to have done the bad choice c)The staff is kind d) as in August at Arles, I have the impression that the Best Western chain has financial problem and you keep your 3 stars level only because of the room spaces.

Please advise if there is bath or shower

If you want a good quality hotel at a good price, this is a good hotel for you. It is near Gare Perrache - which is not really the main train station for Lyon - Gare de la Part Dieu is the main station. Expect to either take a taxi or the metro (one change of line required) to get to the hotel. It isn't really walkable with luggage. For touring and eating, I liked the location of this hotel. A good walk or an easy metro ride to Vieux Lyon and good restaurants and bouchons.

We've been only for one night, but has been perfect! next visit will be surely longer. Hotel highly reccomended

We were allocated a room on the 2nd floor which was large by French standards. The room was freshly decorated, comfortably furnished and had a nice view. Staff were efficient and helpful.The hotel is to the south of the main railway station and the main and older parts of the city are to the north. However, it's not more than a 10min walk and you can traverse the station via a high level covered arcade (which has escalators at both ends). We used the hotel as an overnight stop-over and it suited us very well. I would think that it would be equally suitable for a longer stay in Lyon.

Just needed a place to stay for 2 days as we were passing through. We got what we expected. Rooms are clean, nothing special and a bit on the small side. Staff were friendly and helpful. Nothing to complain about. Would recommend if you just need somewhere good to sleep and close to a train station.

Nice hotel, nice helpful staff - not great part of town. If I went back to Lyon again, I would stay north of Perrache Railway station.

Comfortable hotel in a good and quiet location close to the train station. Room was small, but adequate.

This was our second time staying in Lyon and the first time at this hotel. The first time we stayed in Lyon was at a different hotel that was supposedly 3-star but was tiny, noisy, and not even close to worth the price. Best Western Charlemagne definitely exceeded our expectations. It was clean, reasonably priced, and well located. It is in walking distance to everything including the train station and great shopping and restaurants at Place Carnot and Place Bellcour. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful and the room was more spacious than the average rooms that you will find in France. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay here next time we are in Lyon.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights - we caught the TGV into Lyon and were happy to find that the Perrache station was only a few steps from the hotel! Great Location - walking distance to Lyon's Fourviere Hill cathedral. Excellent bakery across the road from the hotel. Great bar with a lovely outside area to enjoy a drink. Clean, comfortable room with modern bathroom.

It was a bit tricky to find the way from the railway station. We arrived by bus from the airport.

Good location. Room too small!!

The room itself was fine, but the bar and restaurant area was open only 7.30pm - 9.30pm. With a very limited room service, bar menu and poor restuarant food it made it a depressing place to be in the evening. As the hotel is situated by the station (conveinent but not necessarily in the best part of town) as a female traveller I didn't feel safe to explore in the evening either. On top of that tha Wifi didn't work. It was functional and I had a good nights sleep, but other than that a pretty depressing stay. While the stay was not bad, there are better value hotels in Lyon.

This hotel is modern, with relatively spacious rooms, working air conditioning, excellent facilities. Its location near one of the major railroad stations of Lyon is very good. On the whole, excellent value for the price paid.

Room was a bit hot. Very convenient and close to the railway. Satff English was very good.

Un classico best western come da aspettative

The hotel has a very good situation. You can walk to the center in 15 minutes. The underground is also near the hotel.

Five minute walk from Gare Parrache.
