The island is part of the Tuscan archipelago and the legend tells that it was born from a jewel fallen in the Tyrrhenian sea from the neck of Venus, the Goddess of beauty and love.

The sea bottoms, a real paradise for divers, the mountains surrounded by secular woods, the beaches and the coves framed by the Mediterranean vegetation, the small and quiet villages hidden between the hills, are the main features of this heaven.

The hotel offers all the amenities you may need for a wonderful holiday. You can practice canoeing, scuba-diving, windsurfing, sailing, tennis, archery, swimming or keep in shape in the well-equipped gym or you can simply lie around, relax and sunbathe on the private beach.

The property features 2 restaurants, 3 bars, a conference centre, an Internet Point as well as a bazaar where you can buy tobaccos, newspapers, souvenirs and sundry articles.

Magnifique hotel Best Western avec vue à 180 degrés sur le golfe de Porto Azzuro. Les chambres sont immenses avec balcon et climatisation nickel. Seule défaut de cet Hotel, le niveau d'insonorisation des chambres est faible. Le service de chambre est impeccable et passe matin et soir afin de savoir si vous avez besoin de serviettes, produits de toilette, etc... Le petit déjeuner est gargantuesque et pourrait meme vous faire oublier l'heure du déjeuner tellement il est copieux. Le diner le soir est d'un très bon rapport qualité-prix (25 euros sans boisson avec antipasti, primi, secundi, fromages et desserts). Néanmoins, je conseille d'aller faire un tour aussi à Capoliveri avec plein de bons petits restos sympas (notamment "l'oasi", super accueil et carte impressionnante et à petits prix!). Concernant les loisirs, 2 piscines, 1 plage privée où on accède via un ascenseur de l'hotel. Possiblité de pratiquer gratutitement VTT, tennis, fitness et canoe. La réception parle français et est très serviable. Portier pour vos bagages à l'entrée. Fait rare: les photos sur Venere.com sont loin de la réalité. On a été très agréablement surpris de l'architecture et du site en arrivant. Un hotel à ne manquer sous aucun prétexte!!!

The quality of the staff except for the consierge was poor. The beach was excellent - one of the best at Elba. Lunch rest. at the beach also very nice. We complained about the bath not working properly upon arrival, was not fixed (NOT GOOD for a 4*hotel). Breakfast and headmaster is a disaster. No change in what was offered in 10 days. Elba however is a paradise - most recommendable, beatiful island.

We were there 2 weeks to mid June 2005 in a junior suite. The hotel has amazing views over Porto Azzuro and bay, but it has very few facilities to offer. The restaurant and bar staff are very good and the food is excellent. Reception staff are not the most helpful and the welcome was indifferent. Our major problem was that the rooms are so noisy. The bedrooms are not carpeted but ceramic tiled and the walls are thin. The hotel is not a peaceful and relaxing place. Watch out for the mosquitoes !

This hotel was absolutely beautiful and our rate was very fair. The only thing that made it lose points a bit for us was the "welcoming" aspect. Not that it needs to be, but it didn't cater to American tourists at all in that the front desk did not speak english very well at all and menus, etc., were in Italian and Dutch. We made due with our Italian but it was very obviously a European tourists spot. But so beautiful!

We loved our stay at the hotel. The amenities were great. The pool was lovely and the beach area fantastic. I would skip the food - it was mostly catering-style suff. We walked around the corner to Frank's Hotel and got much fresher food for less money. This is a family place - so there are little kids everywhere. We didn't have any problem with that though, it added a nice family-style touch to our stay. The only drawback was the staff at reception. When we arrived our shower and A/C didn't work and it took an hour for someone to get to us. They made up for it in the end by upgrading to a better room, but I felt that they were a bit rude as if we were getting away with something we didn't deserve. Also one woman at recepetion was very rude, and continuously told us wrong information like we were not going to be able to get off the island as the ferry was booked when in fact there was no trouble at all. We had to struggle just to get the phone number of the ferry company from her. Not a very nice to note to end a stay on, but later on we spoke to a very nice woman at reception and helped us after that and gave us the right information. We found two English speaking staff who made up for the unpleasantness of the others. In the end they more than made up for some of the unpleasantness experienced. On the basis of the pool, beach and rooms I would still recommend the place. Kepp in mind also that this hotel is on the quiet side of the island. That's not a problem if you can drive a scooter. Around the corner from Franks hotel is a scooter rental place.

How to reach Grand Hotel Elba International

By car
From the North: from Milan on the A1 motorway, change to the A15 at Parma ovest and reach the A12 motorway Genova-Livorno. Exit at Rosignano, proceed on the S.S. Aurelia road until Venturina-Isola d'Elba and continue until Piombino Marittima. From here take the ferry-boat and after 1 hour you will reach Portoferraio (the main port), Porto Azzurro or Rio Marina harbours.
From the North-East: from the A1 motorway Bologna-Firenze-Pisa-Livorno exit at Rosignano Proceed on the S.S. Aurelia street until Venturina-Isola d'Elba and continue until Piombino Marittima. From here follow the aforementioned indications.
From the South: from the A12 motorway Roma-Grosseto take the S.S. Aurelia road, exit at Venturina-Isola d'Elba and proceed until Piombino Marittima. From here follow the aforementioned indications.
From Portoferraio: take the county road in the direction of Porto Azzurro. After 10 kilomtres, turn right at the junction with Capoliveri. After 100 metres turn right onto Naregno. Proceed along the coast for approximately 3 kilometres until you find the hotel's indications.
From Porto Azzurro: drive in the direction of Portoferraio and follow the aforementioned indications.
